When I activated SPOT tracker for this summer's hike, I purchased for $7/year - rescue and extraction insurance.
Basically if local resource is supplemented, or must charge for search & extraction, then the bill is paid by this insurance.  Dang cheap.

Below, same firm offers medivac, repatriation etc - at $200-$300 / year, domestic/international.

Just a thot. Joel

Your Question:
Hello - are there exclusions in the medivac or SAR policies for recreational flying activity?  I am an active paraglider pilot.
Thanks - Joel McMinn

GEOS Answer:
Hello Joel
there are no exclusions of any activities for the sr medivac.
Please see specific exclusions for the SAR Benefit at www.geosalliance.com/sar. Para gliding though is not excluded.

Dear Valued Customer,

Our records as at 23 November 2009 show that you have an active GEOS Private Search and Rescue Benefit, which will provide you with the comfort of financial cover for your evacuation upon the activation of your SPOT unit.

As you are concerned for the safety of yourself and your family we invite you to also consider our ‘Medical Evacuation and Repatriation’ program, which we are able to offer you, as a GEOS SAR Member, at very low premiums with savings of around 80% compared to similar insurances.

Hey Joel,

I'm not clear - was the insurance from SPOT or from the firm listed below?  Also, I'll be writing an article about SPOT -- care to share your thoughts, who should consider getting one and why?

thanks,
Mike Steed
