Derby Makers are going to have an evening to raise money for Comic Relief and also to have some fun. If you have watched the TV programme The Great British Bake Off you may have seen that they had four extra programmes with celebrities to raise awareness of Comic Relief and to encourage people to have bake sales to raise money.

We do not have the facilities to have a Bake Off so we are going to host The Great Derby Ice Off. Each contestant will be given four cupcakes to ice and some cardboard and masking tape to make a box of a suitable size for the cakes. Contestants will be asked to think of a theme or subject for their icing before the evening and also to come prepared to decorate their box to fit in with this theme.

As an example I decorated four cupcakes with the theme of bugs and put them into a grass coloured box. I would hope that people could maybe think of more interesting things to add to their boxes!
There will be a time limit and at the end a vote will happen to find the winner of the 2013 Great Derby Ice Off.

I will be asking for names of those who would be willing to take part and also an entrance fee of £3.00 per contestant all of which will go to Comic Relief.
If those who enjoy baking would like to do some to bring on the evening to sell this would add more money for Comic Relief.

The Telegraph are also hoping to come along to take some photos so I do hope there will be some inventive themes. Also I would be grateful if someone who knows how to use the 3D printer could print a trophy for the occasion.

I forgot to put the date on my last post. We are having our Comic Relief evening on Tuesday March 12th from 7.00. Also if people would like to bake cakes before the evening to sell this will add to the money raised. Anything not sold on the evening can be offered to the Museum staff, Hannah has said this is OK. I am not going to be there this evening but from next week I will be asking for names of those willing to take part and also asking for the payment of the three pounds for entry to the ICE OFF. I hope it will be an enjoyable evening when we could also invite others to come along either to take part or watch. Is any one able to print a trophy on the 3D printer. The telegraph should be coming so it would be good to have some interesting cakes to show and the trophy.
I would put it on the website but Jonathan I think needs to remove the item that is on there for March 12th.
See you all next week,
Anne

I have been trying out some other ideas for cakes to give ideas of what could be done. On the night people will be given ingredients for icing and some tubes of icing that look like paint tubes.
They will also be given some card and masking tape but other things need to decorate the box will need to be brought with you so some planning is needed.
I am also hoping that you will bake something to sell so that we can raise a decent amount of money.

Can I please encourage those who have signed up to be part of the Comic Relief Ice-Off to bring their three pounds tomorrow if they have not already paid.
I would also like some more contestants so please be prepared to join in the fun and let family and friends know what is happening.
If anyone can let me have some cereal boxes I would be very grateful
.
See you tomorrow
Anne

Not sure if I'll be able to make it tomorrow night, I'll be looking after the children. I hope the Ice Off goes well, and thanks to Anne for organising. Put me down for £5 sponsor money whether I make it there or not.

Cheers
Mark

Last night was great fun and I think the cakes and boxes were amazing. So far we have raised £90.00 for Comic Relief and there should be some more as the cakes are still being sold.
I did try to write something on our website and even installed google chrome to help but still no joy. At first the website would not load at all and then when I tried to add a photo it said Chrome could not access the site.
Consequently I have written something on my blog angeledenblog.com which I will publish tomorrow. Is it worth thinking about having Derby Makers on wordpress as this is so easy to use?
I will put some photos on flicker shortly and see if I can get these onto the website! Thank you to everyone who took part both contestants and all those who baked cakes to sell. The tea and cakes have made £45.00 on their own.

Anne,

Could you try adding a dummy article (a load of random text will do) to the site at www.ngsearch.com/derbymakers ?

Thanks

Glyn

Hi Glyn

I have put on two articles today. The first a short one this morning from my husbands PC and this was easier than my iPad.
I have just had another go from my Mac and this time it seemed to work better and I dragged photos from my desktop to the article which seemed to work.

How long until they appear on the website?

Glyn

I don't know what is happening because I did try two articles yesterday and when they are published they are just one paragraph each. The links which did work before I saved the articles have gone. The second one on Inkodye had 4 photos and links , all these have disappeared. I was pleased with this one but now it looks boring! The problem is It doesn't feel like it is worth spending time to put something on that I don't like.

I had wanted the Comic Relief on properly so that when people googled Derby and Comic Relief we would have come up but my article before last Tuesday didn't appear at all, so I had to put the follow up one on my blog which I am pleased with.
