Licence keys and timebomb

We were caught presumably by a built in time bomb shutting down our 4.2.5
server at 00:00:00 GMT on 1st Feb, despite having upgraded under the 35%
offer scheme at the end of last year.
I had entered the new key in addition to our existing key, and I think that
the mailserver just interrogated the first key and then shut down as it was
not valid.
I have since deleted the preceding out of date key just leaving the new one,
and the server is now operating normally and not shutting down every few
minutes.
I offer this in case anyone else is in the same situation.
The documentation about inserting new keys did not make it clear that
(apparantly) old keys should be deleted rather than just adding the new
ones.

I have just had an email from Roman at Stalker.
He says quote
"You must upgrade to 4.2.8. There was a problem with checking the license
keys in pre-4.2.8 versions."

You must upgrade to 4.2.8. There was a problem with checking the license
keys in pre-4.2.8 versions.

I send this message in reply to the topic

Timebomb: Look like you need to upgrade to 4.2.8 to be safe

Hello,

I had to upgrade today, too and encountered a new problem with 4.2.8:

CGP 4.2.8 Return-path validation seems broken

This topic was on the russian cgp-list, too!

When upgrading from 4.2.5 and setting in smtp config:

HELO and Return Paths for: everybody

all Mails from non clients are rejected with 572

Inside the systemlogs you will find:

17:10:32.87 2 ROUTER test...@bigfoot.com accepted by SMTP as <test...@bigfoot.com> at <*>
17:10:32.87 3 DNR-25392(*) MX:host name is unknown
17:10:32.87 3 DNR-25393(*) A:host name is unknown
17:10:32.87 1 SMTPI-39172(gmueX.ruf.uni-freiburg.de) Return-Path 'test...@bigfoot.com' rejected: host name is unknown

I have tested this behavior by typing in from a pc and got as a result in
the dialog:

...
250 EHLO
mail from: test...@bigfoot.com
572 test...@bigfoot.com host name is unknown
quit
221 uni-freiburg.de CommuniGate Pro SMTP closing connection

Instead of testuser I used a real existing userid at bigfoot.com.

Any Hints??

Kind Regards

Guenter Mueller

Broken if you're configured to use a smart host forwarder.

Supposed to be fixed in 4.2.9 which was due out by end of January.

Does that include 4.1.8 ?
I never upgraded past that because I thought there was going
to be an issue like this, even though I bought my Lic upgrade about 6
months ago, I am also running all the upgrade keys just adding the
new ones?

Not even an error in my logs last night, by the time this one shits
up on me I will be running some other mail server :)

I do have one major problem, when I bought this I was
(Firstserver.cc) and did not like the .cc after so we thought about
it and bought a new domain (Grandaccess.com) now I would like to run
the mail server as smtp.Grandaccess.com but we are stuck with
firstserver.cc ... Not Even mail.firstserver.cc !

http://www.SurgeMail.com - far better, much more responsive and far
less expensive (with a larger feature set).

Cluster setup only $1770.00
hot mirroring
easy migration
integrated spam filtering
easy to add ClamAV to it - no third party modules needed

I assume 4.1.8 IS ok. I think the upgrade applies to later versions,
particularly 4.2.5

Some of us have upgraded, some have downgraded. Versions 4.2.5 and
4.2.6 seem to be the problem versions - maybe others, though, and it
may depend on your license keys.

I downgraded, and am currently running 4.1.8 with no issues (12 hours now).

Thank you, that's the point. I hope, 4.2.9 comes soon.

Thank you for your quick answer. I've found nothing in the release notes
for the current version.

Better hope you're in compliance... the license extension was only to allow
an extension for out-of-date licenses purchased after Nov. 2001 to upgrade
to 4.2.8. If you haven't paid your other arm and other leg to renew your
license in the past couple years, you can't get the bugfix.
