I am looking for some affordable sip phones that people can use
with CGPro without any extra stuff...
Regards,
Maren.

If your server is behind a NAT firewall and has an internal IP address, it
won't work as a SIP server for what you want to accomplish.
You can certainly use the free version of XLite from Xten to test and see if
you can make it work on a pc before going further.

just a firewall with real IPs... and open wholes in the firewall, so i
should be OK.

ok good thanks... i will start there...
Maren.
Excuse me, but you are wrong. That's EXACLY what CGatePro is doing - letting
you use SIP via firewalls and NATs, and do so reliably.
You can do that when CGatePro has 2 network interfaces - one on the internal
LAN and one on the other size of the NAT/firewall - a recommended setup when
your NAT/Firewall is a regular server.
You can also do that when your NAT/Firewall is some "black box", and your
CGatePro server is comletely behind that firewall, within the "NAT'ed" LAN.
To make CGatePro work properly in both cases you need:
a) make sure that your LAN is specified correctly on the Protection->LAN IPs
page.
b) make sure that the proxying ports for UDP and TCP are specified (they are
set to 60000-60100 by default).
c) make sure that you specify which CGatePro IP address is used as its "LAN
IP" address (usually you do not have a choice when your CGatePro has only
one IP, and is behind a fireall).
d) make sure that your specify the CGatePro WAN IP address. In the case when
CGatePro is completely inside the "NAT'ed" LAN this IP address is your
network EXTERNAL address.
Finally, if CGatePro is completely with the "NAT'ed" LAN, you need to adjust
the NAT/Firewall setup. At this point it should already "map" SMTP, POP, etc
ports on the external (WAN) IP address to the same ports on CGatePro box (on
it's internal IP). Do the same for the SIP ports (5060 for UDP and TCP, 5061
for TCP with TLS). And do the same for the UDP and TCP ports CGatePro uses
for media proxying (i.e. those ports 60000-60100 you set on the
Portection->LAN page).
That's it. In this case, anyone inside that LAN will be able to use SIP (IM,
VoIP) withing the network and will be able to call outside the network and
be called from outside the network. It works much more reliable as all those
"STUN" and other tricks that some SIP devices have, because those things are
what they are - tricks. For example, SIP does not solve a problem when all
your remote office employees are registered on the central server (outside
the remote office LAN). In the best case the "trick" solution will let those
people talk to each other, but through the edge server, in many cases, the
people with that remote LAN won't be able to talk to each other at all.
In the similar way, if you have just one server, and it's completely inside
the firewall, you need to set at as specified above, and CGatePro WILL
accept calls from outside and it will proxy it to SIP devices within that
LAN acting not only as a SIP proxy, but as a media proxy, too.
