Hello mates

I am a new member of DCC group on google. I was going through a couple
of posts below, and saw some discussions over people not turningup to
events. One reason could be as these events are organized at different
parts of Delhi and Delhi being a big city, some people might have to
endup cycling for about 30 to 40 kms (from home) apart of the actual
event ride.

May I know a place in Delhi from were we can buy rooftop cycle
carriers?, installing which we can carry our cycles on rooftop of our
cars and then start from the event.

This may help in increasing the members participation and also reduce
the cost of renting cycles for members.

Regards
Sachin.

There are both roof top and rear attachment bike carriers. One of the
better known brands is Thule, but there are enough locally made ones,
safety is of prime importance so take your pick. I recently picked up
a bike carrier which fits on to the rear of a car from Thule known as
Freeway 968, check the thule website for details. It fits both a
saloon and a hatchback. The cost was Rs 6590. trust this helps, if you
want futher details, mail me or reply to this post..

Ok I did speak to a couple of firefox dealers in Delhi. They dont have
rooftop one in stock. Firefox dealer @ lajpat nagar told me to search
for Thule Carriers
Searched for their number on Just dial and google, But I was not able
to find any.

The one that fits at the back is for Rs 3500/-. However I am looking
for RoofTop.

You could contact Methods in Bangalore who are dealers/importers of
thule carriers. Weigh the rooftop and rear ones carefully since both
of them have their advantages and disadvantages. The top one increases
your wind resistance and also risks your cycles from overhangs and
barriers..... plus it may take away from the sleek look of your car/
suv!
On the other hand rear ones are safe and are easy to fix. See both of
them fitted onto a car before you decide.
Some useful contact details are as follows :-

Trust this helps.

Saw a back mountable Thule carrier in Merida shop, Lajpat nagar which
was available for 7.5K, exact model don't remember. Firefox sells a
back mounted carrier for 3.5K but I am not aware of any roof mounted
carrier from FF.

@ANUJ

When you are carrying a bike on a car, I guess, safety of your bike is
paramount to you than petty things like fuel economy and looks. A
person who is investing close to 10K for a roof mounted carrier ( +
approx 2.5K for each base/each bike), in all probability, would carry
an expensive bike on it too. IMVHO carrying a bike on roof mounted
carrier is the best option safetywise. One would not like his/her bike
bumped from rear by some unruly driver nor one would like to see
people fiddling with the shifters etc on red lights and traffic jams.
Rear mounted carrier provide a cheap and convinent solution for
transporting bikes but it's risky/unsafe. On the other hand mounting/
dismounting a bike on a rooftop carrier is difficult but the safest
option. Even a bike standing on top of an SUV will not exceed the
height of a truck/bus, so fear of bike catching the roof of a bridge/
overhang is overrated.

Cheers....
