Description: These endangered birds can be found at the garbage dump of
Guwahati. Standing almost as tall as the people around them, they vie with
the numerous Black Kites and House Crows for their share of human refuse. At
times, they fly over to the adjacent pond giving us a glimpse of their
original habitat (perhaps). These adults in breeding plumage have
bluish-grey mantle, grey band across greater coverts, red patch on the
shoulder and long gular pouches.
