Scouts, Families, and Leaders of Buckeye District,

The Simon Kenton Council is sending a contingent of up to three crews to
Philmont in 2010.  We have one of those crews filled and are working to
fill at least a second crew.  If you or your scouts are interested in a
high adventure experience at Philmont next summer, this is a great
opportunity.

Participants on Philmont Backpacking Expeditions hike through the Sangre de
Cristo Mountains of Philmont Scout Ranch, ranging in elevation from 6,600
feet at Headquarters to 12,441 feet at the top of Baldy Mountain.
Fascinating backcountry programs and more than 350 miles of challenging
trails await those who seek to discover the wonder of Scouting's Paradise
as over 860,000 Scouts, Venturers, and leaders have since 1939.  Philmont
offers you the opportunity to hone your outdoor skills and gain confidence
in your Scouting ability.   For many scouts, attending Philmont is a life
changing experience and is the pinnacle of their Scouting career.

Location:
Philmont Scout Ranch, near Cimarron, in Northeast, New Mexico

Possible Trek Activities and Side Trips:
Trek activities will be based on the trek itinerary the crew chooses .
Some of these include archeology, climbing and rappelling, fishing,
forestry, Indian lore, horseback riding, burro packing and racing, gold
panning, rifle and shotgun shooting, mountain biking, Western lore, and
blacksmithing.  Our side trips will be based in either Colorado Springs
(with choices including the US Olympic Training Center, The US Air Force
Academy, Gardens of the Gods, Pike's Peak, and Whitewater Rafting) or
Albuquerque (with choices including Atomic Museum Tour, Sandia Tram and
Mountain Hike, Bandeliar Cliff Dwellings, Acoma Pueblo/Tent Rocks Hike, and
Whitewater Rafting).  All side trips will be operated by an outfitter.

Dates:
Depart Columbus on Saturday, June 12, 2010 and return to Columbus on
Saturday, June 26, 2010.  We'll enjoy pre-trek touring Saturday and Sunday,
June 12th and 13th and arrive at Philmont on Monday, June 14th.

Cost:
The cost to attend Philmont as a member of the 2010 Simon Kenton Council
Contingent will be approximately $2000.  This cost includes the 12 Day
Philmont Backpacking Expedition, round trip air fare and ground
transportation between Columbus and Philmont, side trips, lodging, and
meals in either Colorado Springs or Albuquerque, and a specially designed
crew/contingent shirt.

Age Requirements for Participation:
Philmont participants for 2010 must be at least 14 by September 1, 2010.

Attached is the Simon Kenton Council Philmont 2010 registration form.

If you are interested in attending Philmont in 2010, as part of a crew from
