to Defenders Announcements
If our times have become so ripe for anti-Obama, anti-black, pro-white
supremacy, pro-hate sentiments that the Klan could hold a public rally
in Richmond, it is time for Richmond to stand up and say NO!
The Defenders supports the call for an ANTI-HATE Rally. In light of
the Obama/Joker banner downtown and the recent racist graffiti attacks
on Forest Hill and Three Lakes parks, we believe this is more than
enough motivation to take a public stand against RACISM and be a part
of this demonstration at Kanawha Plaza. Even if the recent CraigsList
notice was definitely a hoax, the counter demonstration is a good
idea. After all, are we ONLY going to come out when the Klan shows up?
Are we waiting until THEY FEEL like the time is GOOD for them? They
should not ever feel like the times are good for them to come out from
under cover.
SO, we are asking all our friends and colleagues in the struggle
against racism and oppression to come out and stand together -
RICHMOND STANDS AGAINST RACISM - and whatever other slogans you want
to demonstrate that hate has no place in a humane society. Join us at
Kanawha Plaza, corner of 7th & Canal streets from 4:30 - 6:00 pm this
Friday, Oct. 30th. Parking is on the street where you can find it at
that time, which is not easy, so car-pooling is a good idea.
AND - If you cannot come out to this rally, then find another way to
demonstrate with us - Whatever ANTI-RACISM/ANTI-HATE message you would
proudly carry in a march, send it as an e-mail or text blast, FACEBOOK
or TWITTER post! Send it out on Friday from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. Raise a
glass of wine or beer while you're out for the evening to an end to
racism and hate-mongering, scapegoating and discrimination! Have a
chat with your children, your friends, your colleagues. Make it
CUSTOMARY AND ORDINARY for racism to be UNACCEPTABLE.
Sincerely,
Ana Edwards, Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality
