On Wednesday May 23, 200 (mainly youth) marched
from
Central & Classical High Schoolson The South Side of
Providence to Providence Police Headquarters, Providence
City Hall, The
Providence Place Mall, ending at The Rhode
Island Statehouse
against Racial Profiling.
Sadly, the former head of The Rhode Island State
Police was
chosen by Providence's first Latino Mayor, Angel
Tavares as
Public Safety Commissioner, giving him authority
over the
Providence Police & Fire Cheifs.
The result has been a saturation of the streets of
Providence
with State Police cruising like sharks on the hunt
for people
of color and poor white people to yoke-up and
jam-up. Their
latest tactic is to team-up one State Po with
one City Po in
the vehicle in
fascist 'hunting-parties' bent on wrecking as
many working class lives as possible per
shift.
People are fed-up and fighting back. Participants
in the march
were from organizations such as PrSYM (Providence
Student &
Youth Movement, DARE (Dirct Action for Rights &
Equality), The
RI Peoples Assembly, ONA (Onleyville Neighborhood
Association),
Somos Todos Arizona, Providence NAACP, The Eastern
Medicine Drum,
and others.
