Hello,

I am not sure if the creation of this group overlapped with my request
to name it something non-Debian specific, but it seems that now it is
too late.

To rehash my argument: Debian is only one distribution we want to get
into. We should also shoot for rpm based distros as well as Solaris.
Eventually I can even imagine writing something along the lines of the
cygwin tools that query a repo and download binary packages for OSX
and Windows.

Cheers,

Michael

sorry about this - I made it yesterday evening. But it's never late -
I have no problems with renaming it. But I thought we will first
concentrate on Debian and only then on the rest.

Hello Ondrej,

yep, I just caught up with my complete email (well 2 out of 3
accounts), so I just read your earlier reply. I would really like to
see a rename, we can and certainly will concentrate in Debian first,
but changing the name down the road will be more painful. The
description can clearly mention the connection with Debian.

Re the name itself: I would prefer sage-packaging, i.e. "sage" first
to keep it similar in style to all the other Sage google groups.

Cheers,

Michael

While I am at it: Please add [debian-sage] to the email subject
(somewhere in the config options). I can do that for you once you make
me a moderator ;)

Done. You are a moderator and William is the owner.

I got this email 8 hours after you sent it.

My idea was to create this list specifically for Debian packaging. In
Debian, the lists are named "debian-python", etc. So I named it
"debian-sage".

What do you think William and Tim?

As I said, anything is fine with me, as long as things starts moving
and there is one list, that archives all these discussions for future
reference.

While there's some merit to having a generic sage-packaging list (since
I'm sure that there will be issues common to several distros), I think
that many of the issues involved with Debian packaging will end up being
fairly Debian-specific. So, I could go either way.

Having thought about this some more debian-sage should be fine, once
there is the need for a more general discussion we can do
sage-packaging. Should there ever be enough interest fedora-core-sage or
whatever else might follow.

Exactly, that was my original idea. Ondrej
