Intel 855GM und aktuelles X unter Linux?

Hallo,

ich möchte gerne ein Notebook der ersten Centrino-Generation mit
Debian unstable (X.Org 7.4) benutzen. Der Grafikteil des Chipsatzes
zeigt sich im lspci mit
|00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02)
und der Kernel/udev scheint das für einen i915 zu halten, denn ich hab
die folgenden Kernelmodule automatisch geladen:

Das X scheint auch zu laufen (mit dem Treiber intel, Log unten), und
ich kann mich nach KDE 4 einloggen, aber beim ersten Mausklick bleibt
das X so weit stehen, dass sich nur noch der Mauszeiger bewegt. Ich
kann nix mehr tippen, das System reagiert nicht mehr auf Mausklicks.
Sowohl der X-Server als auch der kdm sind so tot, dass man sie nur
noch mit kill -9 beseitigen kann, sanftere kill-Methoden sind
wirkungslos.

Wenn ich dann versuche, einen neuen kdm zu starten, hab ich einen
schwarzen Bildschirm, und das Log des X-Servers endet so:

Habt Ihr eine Idee, woran das liegen kann?

integriertem Intel-Grafikchip unter OpenSuse 11.1 mit

Bei mir funktionierte als workaround mit kernel 2.6.27 ein
deaktivieren von DRI in der xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
[...]
Option "DRI" "0"
[...]
EndSection

Danach war X zwar mehr oder weniger benutzbar aber das fehlende DRI
machte sich bei der Geschwindigkeit schon stark bemerkbar.

Kann also wirklich nur als "Workaround" betrachtet werden...!


Brauchbar wurde das Ganze erst wieder nach einem upgrade des Kernels
auf 2.6.31 (BTW: Danke SuSE, daß dabei keine Initrd gebaut wurde, was
mir weitere schöne Stunden im Netz bei der Suche nach der Lösung eines
neuen Problems bescherte... :-/ ) und update der Xorg-Pakete von Suse
auf die neueste Version womit sich DRI wieder schmerzfrei aktivieren
ließ.
(...solange man von 'Option "Composite" "on"' die Finger läßt... ;-))

Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
spielen...

Hmmm... :-/

Das Einzige was mir jetzt noch dazu einfällt wäre, den aktuellen
Treiber evtl. mal selbst zu kompilieren...

Ansonsten weiß ich auch nicht weiter und bin ehrlich heilfroh, daß es
dann bei mir mit den SuSE-rpms letztlich funktioniert hat.
Ich faß diese Baustelle ohne Notwehr nicht mehr an... :-/
