Hi, ich frage das warscheinlich schon zum einhunderttausendsten mal.
Aber mein SuSE 7.3 bringt mich noch ins Grab.

Ich habe 2 Win2000 Clients und einen Linux Server (alles OHNE!
Internetanbindung). Samba verteilt die Ordner und funktioniert auch ganz
prima. Ich möchte nun von einem Win2000 Client per Outlook meine Mails auf
dem Linuxserver abholen.
Erst hatte ich probleme mit Telnet, dann mit FTP... bis ich gemerkt hatte,
das ssh installiert war. Inzwischen kann ich schon telnet <host> 110
eingeben und mein POP3-Server spricht an. Wenn ich nun user NAME eingebe
kommt: User bekannt. Bei pass lässt er mich nicht rein. Nun habe ich Outlook
eingerichtet... ich denke es funktioniert auch, Grund: Wenn ich Outlook
starte fangt der Linuxrechner an auf der Festplatte zu arbeiten.
Outlook sagt dann das entweder mein Benutzername oder Passwort nicht stimmt
(welches von beiden kann ich nicht feststellen).

Der Benutzer NAME ist mit Yast angelegt und hat auch ein Passwort. Sendmail
funktioniert Intern auch prima... Mails an N...@host.domain kommen in
/usr/spool/mail/NAME an. Fetchmail habe ich nicht konfiguriert, da ich ja
keine Mails von einem ISP abholen möchte....wobei ich mit fetchmailconf
schon den Benutzer NAME angelegt habe.

Die Aktion mit password und shadow habe ich auch schon probiert.
Keine Anmeldung möglich!

Auch nicht direkt am Rechner? Wenn doch, wirf doch mal einen Blick in
diverse Log-Dateien.

Soll das sendmail heissen? Sendmail ist ein MTA und kann hoechstens
SMTP.

Welchen Teil von <http://www.dcoul.de/infos/mailhandling.html> hast Du
nicht verstanden?

Weiterhin hat das exakt gar nichts mit Linux zu tun:
[fup2 de.comm.software.mailserver]

Dort solltest Du allerdings tunlichst nicht mit Deinem DoS-Tool (aka
"Newsreader") auftauchen, denn dort sind Admins, die wissen, was das
Ding auf *unseren* Servern anrichtet.

Welchen POP3-Server hast Du denn auf dem Linux-Server laufen?
