WWDU 2002 - World Wide Work

Dear colleagues,
you are cordially invited to participate in the 6th International
Scientific Conference on Work With Display Units. WWDU 2002 will be the
first with the focus on a specific theme: World Wide Work with
information
and communication technology. The conference intends to pioneer a new
approach in international cooperation while continuing the WWDU
tradition
which began in the year 1986 in Stockholm.
In the third millennium, visual display units will be the major
stage for all activities aiming at the production of wealth. Human work
with
VDUs will not be limited to monetary activities such as industrial work,
but
cover many areas of our life. The majority of potential users is likely
to
act outside the organized working world, e.g. students, children,
elderly
people. Cooperative work will benefit from the independence of space and
time. WWDU 2002 is the reflection of the impact of global technology on
human work with its local and regional differences in political,
cultural
and social aspects.
The abundance of new resources suitable to reorganize human work
does not mean a horn of plenty which will pour new wealth on the planet,
the
future has to be won. WWDU 2002 - World Wide Work intends to pave the
path
to new worlds of work in the light of the experiences of five decades of
computer use.
Since 1986, the WWDU Conference has gone around the world stepwise
from Stockholm (1986) to Montreal (1989), Berlin (1992), Milan (1994)
and
Tokyo (1997). WWDU 2002 will allow global communication between the
conference center and leading research institutions.
The conference objective is to provide an international forum for
discussing future concepts for computer supported work occurring in a
global
context. It will include plenary presentations, panel discussions and
posters as well as teleconferences.
