Welcome!

This ddp-ideas group (http://groups.google.com/group/ddp-ideas?hl=en) exists to make it easy for people using DDP (http://www.sil.org/computing/ddp) to share ideas and files with each other and the world. The main task requiring this collaboration is

• translating the DDP templates into a national or regional language (and the ongoing updating of that translation.)

Another task this ddp-ideas site can provide a conducive environment for is 

• collaborating on innovations to DDP (e.g. discussing possible new domains and other edits to the English version, suggesting additional questions or example words in English, etc.)

Instructions

To work with the DDP materials, you should download the most recent Toolbox settings from the official DDP site, and the DDP-domains-in-English file (SemDom4.db). Rename the file (to something like SemDom4_ind.db) and then create a new Toolbox project and open the file in it. Add each translation field directly below the corresponding English field. You can later 'remove' the English fields by exporting a copy of the database without including those fields.

To edit the Indonesian materials, download the project in SemDom4_ind.zip and open "settings\SemDom4.prj" to edit SemDom4_ind.db. You may want to download the most recent Toolbox settings from the official DDP site and use them instead, but I think they're pretty much the same.

Participating Languages

• Indonesian (Second Draft). All domains have been translated, and the materials have been used for collecting words in two languages (both in Sulawesi). We edit the domains as a Toolbox file, note the edits in a log file, and upload them as a single ZIP file. We periodically generate printable Word documents based on the Toolbox source file. We can use Toolbox easily generate XML on request if that is preferred.
• Your Language? (Status?).

Indonesian is the first of hopefully many languages using this ddp-ideas group in the process of translating/maintaining a national/regional translation of the DDP (Dictionary Development Process) materials. If you are translating DDP materials, please do request an invitation to join the ddp-ideas group, and we can create a page for your language.
