Paper, spaghetti, and shark fins---Basile Audoly Tuesday 8 May
|
| |
What do they have in common? Find out: Basile Audoly is visiting our group. His interest is in the geometry of elastic (and inelastic) deformations, and in the patterns that emerge from fracture, tearing, etc. Basile's group solved a famous question asked by Richard Feynman----"why does spaghetti break in... more »

Computing Energy
|
| |
There is a subtle issue with how you compute the total energy: Consider time discretized by the tick marks 0, h, 2h, 3h, 4h..... Consider a "dual grid" of tick marks 0.5h, 1.5h, 2.5h, ..... For the forward-backward Euler method, velocity is assumed to be piecewise constant over each interval [kh, (k+1)h] of the primal grid,... more »

View this page "Vertex Picking Code"

| |
There is code online that does vertex picking for you. Please take a look, it is baed on the GLUTViewer program I provided for the first assignment. I also posted a link to an article that outlines how to do vertex picking (which is very easy to implement), in case you are not using my GLUTViewer program.... more »

Questions about the hw2 -- energy and force computation
|
| |
Hi all: According to the paper, the computation of the bending energy can be computed by Wb(x) and so the force can be derived by differentiating Wb(x). As for the stretching energy, I think it's the membrane energy listed on the paper, so the same for the force. Am I right? So to display the stretching and bending force on each vertex, I... more »
