As some of you know Allied in Pride in working with the GW Administration to get a LGBT resource center on campus.

Part of this process includes hiring a graduate student to help research LGBT Resource Centers, and the potential of a GWU resource center.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

To assist in the research and investigation of the feasibility, structure and function of a proposed LGBT Resource Center at The George Washington University.  This position will create a report with a proposal and recommendations so support or deny the need for the creation of a LGBT Resource Center at GW. 

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      This position will develop benchmarking research of all Market Basket universities.

2.      The person will coordinate appropriate visits to Universities in order to learn about their systems and centers.

3.      Candidates must be able to communicate and establish effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members, and must be flexible with their time, especially during evenings and weekends.

4.      This position will interact with and support the Allied in Pride Student Organization and utilize them in an advisory fashion for the research and proposal.

5.      The position will provide a final report and recommendation to the Division of Student and Academic Support Services at the end of the Spring Semester with recommendations regarding all aspects of the possible creation of an LGBT Resource Center to include:

  • Staffing
  • Location
  • Resources
  • Programming
  • Services
  • Possible collaborations across campus and the city

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate should be a current GW graduate student and would preferably be in their first year at GW
  • Knowledge of Safe Zone training is highly preferred.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ issues at the intersection of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation, especially in the context of a college community.
  • The ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, develop new initiatives, and interact effectively in an advisory capacity with diverse students is required.
