Dear Mr. Hill:

Attached is a copy of the letter I mailed you a month ago.

Since that time I've had the opportunity to talk to the
police and received confirmation about the dangers of this
intersection.

I need especially to inform you that the gate which is sup-
posed to block the vehicular entrance is open and swings
across the bike entrance.  This has caused at least one
biker to fall and be injured.

Once again, I must ask, what do you mean when you state that
this crossing "... is working?"

I went to some trouble to provide a timely response.  I was,
at the time of its writing, getting ready for a noon flight
for a vacation.

May I respectfully request that you provide me with a timely
response?

Yours Truly,
/s/Alexander E. Barnes

Dear Mr. Hill:

Thank you for your response (dtd. 94/9/20) to my letter of
concern regarding the Decatur Av. crossing of the Anacostia
Hiker-Biker Trail.  There are indeed many good things about
this trail.  For that I am grateful.

However, this crossing is not one of them.  In your letter
you state "Our findings are that the current design, while
not ideal by any means, is working ..."  I appreciate your
frankness in acknowledging the problem.  I have great dif-
ficulty in following your reasoning about why the
pedestrian/biker/hiker crossing crosses to nowhere instead
of crossing directly to the other side of the trail.

What do you mean when you state that this crossing "... is
working?"

Yours Truly,
/s/ Alexander E. Barnes
