I rode a loop last weekend from the top of Beach drive to Georgetown
and back up the Capital Crescent Trail. The ride was great except for
Rock Creek Park after the blocked-off road ended. The trail at that
point is pitted and not at all conducive to road bikes. The speed of
traffic (where traffic was moving) was much faster than it was in
Maryland, and the storm grates were exactly the right shape and width
to eat my front tire.
Is there a good alternative route that I can take to go from Southern
Rock Creek Park down to Georgetown? Does anyone know if there are any
plans to fix the trail?
Thanks!

if you want to avoid the traffic, that's your choices. i assume you're
talking about the trail from tilden road down to where it crosses rock
creek parkway again south of the zoo. it's been like that pretty much
since our run-in with the "hurricane" several years back.
when it's too muddy from recent rains, i'll just climb out of the park
at tilden, ride across to wisconsin and take wisconsin down into
georgetown. but that's a lot of climbing and a lot of traffic, though
at least the lanes are wider on wisconsin than in the park.
