Lower Rock Creek Park
I rode a loop last weekend from the top of Beach drive to Georgetown and back up the Capital Crescent Trail. The ride was great except for Rock Creek Park after the blocked-off road ended. The trail at that point is pitted and not at all conducive to road bikes. The speed of traffic (where traffic was moving) was much faster than it was in... more »

W&OD Parking Question
Hi, I'm interested in parking off of Cochran Mill Road to enter the W&OD trail at mile post 30.5. Does anyone know if parking is available here. Is parking permitted on the shoulder of Cochran Mill Road? Is there a lot nearby? Thanks!

If I were to promote the benefits of biking, I'd put a lady
If I were to promote the benefits of biking, I'd put a lady like this to ride around town... [link] No speeches about Global Warming or Road Safety would be necessary. Actually, she could advertise my T-shirts too... [link]... more »

Riding at night: a strategy for survival?
Nothing new about it: The little furry mammals developed that strategy to survive among the dinosaurs (which is why we are here)... Anyway, now my next door neighbor wants to ride at midnight... And he ain't one of those crazy bums on a Huffy. He even bought a vest with blinking lights (DUI drivers and SUV drivers chatting on the cell... more »

Horn Blowing = Lion's Roar?
(This comment interprets horn blowing. My own interpretation is found below.) Horn Blowing: Interpreting the Message. If someone honks a horn at you, the meaning is all in the duration. A really brief "Bip!" means "Hi!" or "Bye!" A moderately short beep means, "I just want you to realize I'm here." Somewhere between a... more »

It's like a jungle out there for bike riders
"The bicyclist is under attack from all directions - the streets are ragged, the air is poison, and the drivers are angry." It's like a jungle out there for bike riders. And the attack comes from the top and from the bottom... Lions on SUVs*, given to zigzagging around and yapping away on the cell phone, threaten them... more »

VELORUTION! (bike revolution)
OK, assume a far away land --a Banana Republic if you will-- where the cyclists are victims of discrimination and injustice, and all of a sudden they come to power… and voila, VELORUTION! Like the article bellow says, not all vehicles are equal… The smaller, the more protection they need; the bigger, the more responsibility. On... more »

CF Bicycle Choice?
[Non-cycling groups snipped] ... > [...] > No, Huffies are more for the beggars that Jesus helped. He being God > would have need something more stately, like a pedal forward bike that > keeps your back straight and your head high for scanning the horizon. > Two choices are obvious: Electra bikes, or the cheaper brand that I... more »

Where the cyclists in America belong: back alleys, gutters and sidewalks
Just Saturday morning I was almost attacked for doing the right thing on the Causeway to Hell (the name is due to the many incidents I had there, this being the third one that day). The guy blew the horn as I was riding the bike nicely, and I gave him the finger. I shouldn't have, but he didn't have to harass me with the horn. He stopped,... more »
