First quick update on the DMA meeting. Joe, Dean, and I were there.
Dean is of course a member of DMA, so he had two hats on. The meeting
went very well. We were offered a chance to share a little about
Dayton Diode during the meeting, and several DMA members showed
interest in Dayton Diode. After the meeting, I went to dinner with
several folks from DMA. We talked about Dayton Diode and about how to
form a SIG. The process basically involves having a couple of current
DMA members get involved and vouch for the SIG, following the DMA
bylaws (which are available on their website here: http://dma.org/dma-bylaws05-30-05.pdf)
and managing money through the DMA treasurer (SIGs can "keep" all
the money they raise, it just has to be stored in DMA managed accounts
instead of separate accounts). The short list of upsides is that SIGs
operate under DMA's 501c3 status, can use shared DMA resources (which
used to include a space), and are marketed to the DMA membership. I
believe there would be some work to do about how a Dayton Diode SIG
would go about getting and using a space of its own (or to share with
the rest of DMA), but I feel confident that an arrangement could be
worked out.
Speaking of spaces, Maureen was browsing the internet and came acorss
this interesting looking space for rent:

The layout looks very useful (based on what I can remember about the
list of features we discussed at the last meeting). unfortunately, it
is located in Huber Heights, so not centrally located at all. Still,
the price seemed reasonable, so I thought I might pass it on.
(Disclaimer: I also live like 5 min from this place, so I might be
biased about its coolness due to proximity.)
Hope to see folks at Hive 13 on Sat.
