Comcast didn't help with 10.5 Mail

I still cannot use my 10.5 mail to send anything yet. I contacted
Comcast and they suggested contacting Apple after a session online
with tech help. He suggested port 587 with no SSL checked but it
still did not work.
It's getting frustrating rebooting into my other hard drive just to
send mail out of Tiger. Has anyone found the solution for sending out
mail from 10.5 yet?

As an addendum to my topic...the 587 caused the "connection doctor" to
go all red on my email addresses even as it said at the bottom that
"mail was able to connect with comcast.net". How does that figure?
Now I can't receive mail either.
Help?
