I downloaded what I thought was the software "Handbrake" , from Version Tracker.

Now I have a .DS_Store on my desktop which I cannot move to the trash. It keeps on coming back tot he desktop.

The last time I deleted a DS_store using a disk utility I trashed my hard drive.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks
Dave

.DS_store is a hidden file in OS X that contains information about files.
For example you want A.pdf to open with Preview verses Acrobat Reader but
B.pdf you want to open just the opposite.

The .DS_store files have nothing to do with any particular application.

If you are seeing them and you don't want to, follow the second set of
advise on this page:
http://www.brooksandrus.com/blog/2007/03/23/mac-os-x-show-hide-hidden-files-in-finder/

Which is (from the terminal):
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

I recommend a reboot after issuing the commands.

Thanks Ed

I have no idea why I can see the DS_Store file.

My Macbook is still in Warrenty so I'l likely go to the Apple store and let the Genius do it for me.
I don't do the terminal.

Thanks.

For you reference and everybody else's, since this is a software problem
anybody can take their machine into the Genius bar. AppleCare warranty
only matters if there is something physically wrong with the machine like
a broken key or broken optical drive.

They probably know the command (by heart) but you may want to print this
email and take it along.
