For what it's worth, in searching for something else, I find that Panera Bread in Wheaton (Butterfield & Naperville Rd) has a meeting room. They have WiFi of course, too.

Is it possible for the "Meeting Selection Committee" to conduct the research into alternate meeting sites and report the recommendation during a DAUG meeting? The purpose of the committee should to assemble the information and report without filling up everyone's inbox with daily notes. Has a committee been established yet? Who are the members of the committee?

I mention this as there were a lot of emails last month on this subject. I pay for data when traveling internationally. This gets quite expensive for trivial emails. International roaming charges are not cheap.

I would comment that Panera is an interesting potential. Nothing is "free". Panera tries to request a limit to web access to 30 minutes for their paying customers. I use them while traveling domestically at times. Are the members of DAUG prepared to spend some money at Panera each meeting?

Ralph,
There were a lot of emails last month on possible meeting sites, because the program chair had sent out a request for suggestions, as I recall. As I understand it, this group email is for exactly that, to communicate with members about various individual questions.

This week a couple emails regarding a laptop for sale, went up on the DAUG list by mistake. Please forgive us for that. We also sent some of those privately.

Your idea of a committee is a good one.

From someone who uses Panera (a DAUG member), he told me that if you register with them (so that they can send you their ads) you can have longer/free use of their WiFi when there. I would be willing to register for that. Not a big deal, for the gain realized.

I for one would be willing to spend some money at Panera when we have the
meetings. I've been going to fast food places to eat dinner just before the
meetings anyway. At Panera, I could eat my dinner at the same location as the
meeting. That would save some time, and if/when the meeting start time is
moved earlier to 7pm, I could be approximately on time for them (assuming that
I could bring my dinner to the back room.

Also, Panera would be closer for me, and therefore I'd arrive sooner. (It's a
royal PITA to try to get somewhere down here from Motorola in Arlington Hts.
much before 7pm by leaving earlier - the increased traffic congestion uses up
1/2 the departure time difference.)
