re: 1947 air photos

U OF T Map and Data Library staff recently georeferenced all the 1947
Toronto air photos and have made them available for free to download

Thanks, Marcel. I couldn't actually read the georeferencing data; either
they'd all load one on top of the other, or created a crazy quilt with
random gaps.

If you're looking for newer air photos at no cost and unrestricted, the
USGS's Large Scale Aerial Imagery covers a lot of southern Ontario (and
anywhere near the US border), and is shot at 1 foot/pixel and is 2008 or
newer. The WMS is a bit slow, and only works if you're zoomed in really
close, but I've verified it against many surveyed landmarks, and it's
pretty good. Details page:

what gis software were you using to view the images?

QGis on Mac. Having to rely on the gdal plugin for MrSid.

What CRS are they in?

Yes, I can see what you mean. We're encountering the same thing here. We
will load some JPEGs that should fix the problem. I hope to have them
up today.

I think it might be hard to publish the entire dataset there. I can try
