I'd like to propose this idea - would be interested in feedback and
ideas.

Sounds excellent.

Lets find a date and a location.

I'll look into the details of your proposal this afternoon.

Brady lets first see if people think it's a good idea etc - you already have tonnes on your plate with the Legal Entity task force :)

If this is a 'go' then we should get a taskforce leader and event organizer to run it.

That's great idea.

Should get some socially-aware enterprises to be sponsors, for the summit, to a good cause,
ie., engage them to do a simple commitment first (ie., give money, easiest for them?!).. then
let their messengers work the cause within their respective organizations.. just an idea.. of
cos we can show their big logos on our homepage for their being sponsors etc.

Re the wiki, and in fact our tech best practices, we've been focusing almost solely on
social networks data portability.. (that's good and that's hot).. [re tech best practice doc:
the first step is "Login".. but what about other social media services that requires no login,
eg., technorati, blogsfeed, newsfeed, etc.. still want data portability for these..] Then,
document format's data portability too.. ie., ooxml and odf, etc.. just a brief by-the-way
mention.. unless we can expand the agenda to include that part (or, unless that's outside
dp's scope.. me not sure).. regards, /ac.

Chris -

Sounds like a good idea, and if done right could get a lot
accomplished.

My suggestion would be to target 2 (or possibly 2.5) days. It's
possible that we could multi-track some of the discussions (or go
later into the night).

Multi-track sounds like a good idea - I just worry that wont be able to pour discoveries from one session into the other. I was hoping to have a sort of evolving set of conversations that lead naturally from one to the other so that if you attended all of them a story would be told.

Maybe that is too ambitious and will take too many days?

Not sure where I mentioned it already but I think having some way to
participate from the outside would be great.
Like if there would be some video stream in Quicktime format I could
set something up in Second Life. If it's a discussion
it would then also be cool to project the SL location on the wall to
"connect" both worlds a bit.
The same can be done of course with ustream.tv etc.

Of course multitrack makes this more complicated but some way to
participate from the outside would be nice.

This sounds excellent Chris. Those really interested will come to
participate.

Do you imagine this to be a free/nearly-free event, open to the dataportability public (as barcamps and academic gatherings often are)? Or more of a rationed access event, either through restricted invitation (like foocamp) or by ticket price (like TED)? Where you fall on this continuum influences overall budget, revenue mix, marketing mix, % of people with planned comps (as much as 50-60% comped at an O'Reilly-style event) and event design.

@Christian I think that a SL component (set up by YOU haha) would be great

@Phil I imagine something along the lines of DSS is appropriate. Nearly free - open to all.

well, setting this up is 10 mins if somebody is able to setup
streaming (which means camera, network and providing a Quicktime
Streaming Server).

I would like it to be as free as possible as it fits the topic ;-)
Hence also my proposal to stream it and create backchannels etc.
(of course it would be also nice if you start rather early in the day
so I can watch most of it ;-) ).

Great idea!

I'd consider flying over for a conference like this, because it's
burning me that I am missing so many events as I don't live in San
Francisco and so I can meet so many of you face to face.

Is Kaliya at all interested in helping drive this, given her
experience?

Kaliya would be a great resource!

I think Phil raised a valuable point regarding access...

Also, what would be the ideal timeframe for a summit? How would it be
structured?

I would definitely come out for this,
Brady
