Steering Group -

So that everyone can get it on their calendar early and preserve the
time, consensus has coalesced around the next Steering Action Group
Teleconference being held Tuesday, March 4th, 2008.

The call will last one hour starting at 9pm GMT. This time should
provide a reasonable compromise for the vast majority of our
anticipated participants:

Japan: 6am
Sydney: 8am
San Francisco: 1pm
Boston: 4pm
London: 9pm
Amsterdam: 10pm

I am in the process of finalizing the agenda, so please contact me
directly or otherwise post in reply to this note with proposed items
we should discuss. Please have your suggestions in time for me to
distribute the final agenda by EOD this Friday (Feb. 29).

The call will be held as last time via Skype call-in to the
teleconference account we set up. Use of this service does allow us
to provide limited non-Skype call-in minutes, so please contact me if
you don't believe you'll be able to use Skype. Final call-in details
will accompany the agenda.

Thanks in advance,
Trent

Steering Group -

I'll be compiling the agenda for next Tuesday's planned Steering
Action Group Teleconference (March 4th at 9pm GMT).

So that I can get if finalized by EOB tomorrow (Friday), it'd be great
if everyone could toss in their $0.02 today. Please reply to this
note with your suggested floor discussion topics (in addition to the
standing Action Group updates).

Thanks again,
Trent

I'd like to add as a major item:

Progress of Research Phase, how is the list of communities shaping up, can we highlight the major communities and ensure they have good representation, is there a good way of segmenting the resulting knowledge.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris,

Who is doing this work? Is there a list of communities where research is happening? I can help coordinate with the OASIS XDI and Higgins communities, both of which are very interested in being part of DP.

Drummond -

I'm coordinating the DP Research & Outreach Project. I'm working on
updating the list from the original post [1], so any additions you'd
suggest would be more than welcome.

I've been talking with Paul T (since his office is less than a mile
from mine) to tap his connections (eg. Higgins, etc.). In fact, he
mentioned you'd be a wealth of knowledge we should greedily attack.

If I can get my day job under control, I'm planning to spend a chunk
of time in the next couple days tightening up the list and diving in.
Then my plan is to reach out to the folks involved to flesh out what I
can find online to begin the outreach phase. If you're interested,
perhaps having a quick chat (phone or text) would help us home in on a
priority list (as suggested by Phil and Chris).

Research-o-rama,
Trent

Steering Group -

Here are the details for the next DataPortability Steering Action
Group teleconference:

DATE: Tuesday March 4th
TIME: 9pm GMT [1]
WHERE: Skype #9900827041975640

Regarding the logistics, everyone wanting to join the call should
gather in the Steering Group Skype Chat Room [1] around 15 minutes
before the call starts (ie. 8:45pm GMT). Any last minute updates will
to the plan will be made there.

http://snipr.com/dp_steering_skype

As before, to ensure a smooth call that doesn't last forever and
actually
provides some value, here is the proposed agenda:

1. Roll call (and intros, if necessary).
2. State of the project update from Chris.
3. Brief Action Group updates.
4. Specific topics for discussion.
5. Summary and next steps.

Since it seemed to flow fairly well last time, I'll try to keep things
moving along at a reasonable pace. Please let me know, though, if you
suggest any modifications to the process from the last call.

Regarding the specific topics of discussion, here is a list of items I
received from various people:

A. Update on the Confluence migration (Elias?)
B. Update on ClearSpace evaluation (Chris?)
C. Rebranding Discussion:
- Action Plan for Determining DP Logo Shortlist
- Potential Web-based Voting Solutions
D. Update on Research & Outreach Project (Trent)
E. Round-the-room update on who's doing what.

If there are any other items we should add to this agenda, please
reply to this message. If you're chatting in Skype about ideas you'd
like to discuss, please summarize them here or otherwise bring them to
my attention so we can get them on the agenda.

Looking forward to continuing the dialog.

- Trent

[1] For those of you needing a cheat sheet for your time zone, here's
what I believe to be the conversions for various locations:

Japan: 6am
Sydney: 8am
San Francisco: 1pm
Boston: 4pm
London: 9pm
Amsterdam: 10pm

Please let me know if I've made a mistake with any of these
conversions.

topics I'd like to hear:
- Deliverables for March?

- Who did we recruit last month? Who are we recruiting this month?
- What are we doing to replace the departures of Kaliya Hamlin, envoy
from the identity community, and Marjolein Hoekstra, moderator of the
live chats?

Is it the case that anyone interested can dial in - or is this open only to Steering Action Group members?
Thanks

* Policy Group (Phil + Elias) => need scope definition / conscious
effort

Contentious issue, no resolution. need scope definition / conscious
effort
* Localization Group (Elias) => not a lot of activity. Need a
separate group or combine with Evangalism? Leave as-is for now.
* Steering Group

March Goals:

Question: Is it technology or an approach to technology? A: More
of a philosophy than a tool.
Decide on a logo
Confluence complete
Finalize one page description of what DataPortability is/isn't to
use as clear message statement.
+ More clear definitions regarding data.

Steering Action Group endorses these as key princples:

1. Open to anyone to be involved
2. Transparent in our decision making
3. A consensus-based decision making model
4. Collaboration, not invention

Floor Discussion Topics:

A. Update on the Confluence migration (Elias)
+ Done and live, waiting for migration.
+ Promote the confluence link more heavily on Groups homepage,
etc.
+ Link all Google page links to Confluence equivelant.
+ Delete Google pages after a month or so?

B. Update on Research & Outreach Project (Trent)
+ Outreach started, takes time to foster relationships, will
improve reporting.
+ Liberty Alliance workship on March 10th
+ Representation at conferences. Formalization of a Speaker's
Bureau? => Evangelism.
+ Define measurement of success or completeness.
+ Begin formalizing discussion notes and child pages to get the
ball rolling.

C. Rebranding Discussion:
+ Action Plan for Determining DP Logo Shortlist
+ Potential Web-based Voting Solutions
+ Tech Crunch hosting voting system

D. Evangelism Group is working on Feb report, hoping to get it done by
end of week. Send in notes.

E. Formal decision-making process
+ Wikiocracy seems to work.
+ Must be decentralized, speaking to the philosophy.
+ Some people / companies need to see structure in some form.
+ Define a more "agile" technique for membership
+ Ensure what we're doing will eventually play friendly with an
eventual foundation model? no-op
