FROM: Elias Bizannes, DataPortability Project vice-chair, TO: DataPortability Project Members and Supporters RE: Quarterly Plenary Meeting
As per our 2009 strategic goals[1], the Steering Group of the DataPortability Project will be hosting quarterly plenary meetings to engage the community more with what we are doing. The plenary is an important part of the DataPortability Project's governance framework, which among other things, elects the Steering Group and holds it accountable.
All members of the plenary are invited to this meeting, where the Steering Group can explain how we are tracking against the goals and question Steering members on the DataPortability Project's future direction and the relevance of work being performed. It also is an opportunity for the community to make binding decisions on behalf of the Project, despite being removed from the day to day operation of it. As with all DataPortability Project meetings, this is open to anyone to participate.
The meeting will take the place of the normally scheduled weekly Steering meeting, which will be the last day of March. Refer to the meeting page[2] for details about your region, and feel free to add an agenda item.
To be a member of the plenary, all you need to do is "opt-in" into the vote mailing list.[3], by stating your intention to be a member.
I've cc'd this announcement to the VRM Project, Open Web Foundation and the IDTBD list of which I am personally a subscriber to. I am doing this as they are three groups with overlapping concerns who may be interested in our work.

As with all DataPortability Project meetings, this is open to anyone
regards of Project status to participate. The DataPortability Project
is keeping to being a community driven organization, and although we
don't charge membership fees, we require people to "opt into"
membership so we simply have a measurable way of determining people
that wish to identify themselves as part of the Plenary.
Not a member of the plenary but want to be? To be a member of the
plenary, all you need to do is "opt-in" into the vote mailing list by

I've written a blog post for tomorows Plenary meeting.
The DataPortability Project, in case you didn't notice, reorganised
itself half way through last year (phase 1: workgroup that no one knew
about: phase 2: anarchy! phase 3: the now)
We've purposely been keeping a low profile to get our house in order,
but now we are re-emerging. Here is an update to have you realise that
we';ve been busy, and are excited as we kick into gear this year.
Now's the time to start putting you hand up again if you want to get
involved - sorry to those in the last nine months who have shown
passion but we simply didn't have anything to match you up with to
work on what we are all passionate about. Attend the plenary meeting
and we will tell you how.
