Kaliya pointed this out on the ID-Commons mailing-list. I think is is relevant.  Curious what people's thoughts are, even this early in the org's life.

I think it's an excellent idea. But then again, it's been around for a
while hasn't it...pamela project and the like?

Good to see it's getting some attention - hopefully they can use the
launch of the foundation to create more interest and adoption.

Elias,

Your’re right. A bunch of us hackers have been working on Information Card technology for years. But now that we have multiple compatible implementations of all three parts (card isuuers (i.e. IdPs), “wallets” (i.e. Identity Selectors like Novell’s DigitalMe, Microsoft’s CardSpace and OpenInfoCard Project(Axel Nennker’s work)) and website libraries (i.e. Relying Party code libraries like the Pamela Project) running on all computer (though not yet all mobile) platforms and working with Firefox, IE and Safari, it’s time to create an Information Card developer “clubhouse” AND to evangelize websites to be relying parties and other existing and new identity providers to issue cards. That’s what we need the ICF for.

Hey, great news I wanted to add. Actually I wanted to look into
Cardspace for quite some time but never did because of lack of time
and having actually no idea what it is. I finally learned more about
this at the IdentityCamp and I like it (and I directly experimented on
how to get this into Plone :-) ).

(we also discussed a german OpenID foundation branch at the
IdentityCamp btw. as people might be more aware about OpenID but there
is of course still a lot of confusion what it is and why people should
use it. So hopefully that helps, too).
