Hi everybody!

We had a very spontaneous phone call directly after the steering group
call yesterday and I wanted to share the meeting notes with you.
Main topic was: How can we improve (or maybe more reactivate) external
communications.

Attendees were Daniela Barbosa, Chris Saad and myself.

- charter is at
http://wiki.dataportability.org/display/archive/Charter%2Bfor%2BExternal%2BCommunications
- Communications Action Groups needs a landing page with
- call times (every week after steering call, needs to be checked with Danny)
- links to charters
- links to meeting notes
- we should sent meeting minutes to the public list weekly as well.
maybe also a list of meeting minutes from taskforce calls at the end
of the week. (DONE)
- blogs starts now but is not actively marketed until everything like
feeds etc. is in place. First post is waiting in the pipeline.
- Chris works on a planet-like solution
- taskforce discussion will go to public list unless it gets too much,
then we use a dedicated list
- people are free to post individual taskforce introductions to the public list
- evangelism chatroom: come up with a web based alternative? Christian
is looking into mibbit.com for IRC-web bridge and a logging service

As for my action point, I checked out the widget solution of
mibbit.com and here is a link for you to test:

http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=9e43a15e69104a8b4da9e33dedaecd94&server=irc.freenode.net%3A6667&channel=%23dataportability&noServerNotices=true&noServerMotd=true&autoConnect=true

For IRCers, this is #dataportability on irc.freenode.net. The channel
itself was registered by Tony Yarusso according to ChanServ. Maybe we
could ask him to move this over to the communications action group.

One note regarding the taskforce communication on the public list:
Maybe that should be mainly true for taskforces on topics not on
structural ones like legal etc. But it would be good to know what the
mailing list members here think.

Chris, Daniela: Feel free add or correct points.

cheers,

Christian

Hey everyone,

I'm happy with having the meeting after the steering group telecon. My
meeting this week was a once off.

I'm not sure I understand the point of a chatroom. Are you looking at
having someone in there to answer peoples questions 24/7? Or just an
area for ad-hoc general discussion?

Nothing serves to gather public interest like a good blog. Maybe
meeting minutes could be summarised in a blog post. I think that is
more attractive than having to read through a list of meeting minutes.
If someone has subscribed to the rss feed they're kinda forced to read
the post. Having said that, I have no idea how many people read the DP
public lists so publishing them straight there may be a better
option :)

I'm working on the one-pager to get people on board quicker. As a
recent outsider, I found it difficult to find information on the WIKI.
Its just too much information and a little in your face. I think a
well structured site would help a great deal.

www.dataportability.org is great, let's build on that and not send
visitors directly to the WIKI when they click on the panels, but
instead to information pages. From there we can link to specific pages
on the WIKI for meeting notes, charters etc. Get it a little better
organised... I'm sure this is just a time/resource issue.

My 2 cents :)

Danny

Unfortunately I forgot to reply, so here we go:

So last week was no call but we can do it today after the steering group call.

More the latter. As all of our chatrooms are not really active anymore
it makes sense to simply just have one and use something more
approachable like a web interface for it (but still use IRC for the
geeks)

Actually I think that blog posts should also be posted to the public
list. So it would be on both anyway. Maybe we can even automate this.

Yes, indeed. I raised the communications question in the call just
because I got similar questions, like "what is DP actually doing these
days?", "where can I find information?" and "how can I participate?".
Looking forward to it.

Indeed it is. And I agree, dataportability.org should be the starting
point with a set of good information with some actions for people like
subscribing to blog via RSS or email, subscribing to the public list,
joining the chatroom for starters.
For more involved people it can be a list of task forces they can join
(where I think that does not need to be a taskforce like the legal
entity one as this is more internal but more those which cover the
actual DP topics like Healthcare etc.).
They can then link to their wiki pages.

Talk to you soon!

That clears it up for me, thanks Christian.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the communications call today either. Have some urgent matters to attend to and will have to leave immediately after the steering telecon. Will that call be recorded also?
