This month we are meeting at the LinkedIn offices in MountainView.
(thanks Jim Myers and Steve Ganz!)

Please sign up here: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/472061/

Since we have been having many active Steering and Evangelism calls
that have been very productive the aim of this meeting is not to
rehash what is being put together (although we can provide updates if
attendees want) but the aim is to finish the first 'Do it Yourself'
project and plan on the Message Calendar for the next 6 months around
how we move DataPortability forward.

I know that some attendees of previous meeting have been critical of
the 'talk' at these meetings- this meeting is about action so please
come ready to participate!

The current Agenda is as follows:

* Introductions
* DIY - Do It Yourself Club - see more info here:
http://wiki.dataportability.org/display/dpmain/diy+dp
o What is the DIY and how it came about
o Discuss Message Calendar for the next 6 months
o Discuss and Agree to details of first DIY Project which is
drafted to be around rel=me implementations. Please join us in
defining this project that was proposed by Phil Wolff, Kevin Marks and
David Recordon
o How do we get the community (Developers and Users) to
participate in this first project
* Time to Mingle and discuss projects attendees might be working
on

**Because the DP project is a global distributed project, based on our
workflow process (http://wiki.dataportability.org/display/dpmain/
Workflow)- what comes out of this meeting will be feed back to the DP
community through the discussion boards and the DIY Wiki page so we
can move to implementation quickly with the May project.***

If you are working on projects that you would like to present to the
group or have other items we should cover please add specifics to the
agenda: http://wiki.dataportability.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=1117201

PLEASE feel free to forward this to any colleagues in the Valley that
might be interested in meeting face to face with the local project
group but have been hesitant about coming to SF.

We will attempt to Ustream the DIY discussion as well for those remote
or unable to attend.

Want a quick read of what we have been doing in the last 6 months?

see you there-

Just to follow up on Daniela's announcement, I can think of four things to do Wednesday re: DIY data portability.

1. Design a project calendar.

Our first "hack of the month club" project is rel=me. What comes next? What can we teach through a progression?

2. Write a quick & dirty project plan.

- Map the DIY user journey
- list deliverables
- list the steps to make them
- list needed resources.
- Measures of success to track?
- scale issues

3. Promotional approach.

What behaviors do we want? How can we trigger them?

4. Resources for the plan.

What can we offer and contribute to the project? Marketing, editorial, instructional, technical, support?

All subject to your change.

See you there.

Any chance there might be an official back channel?

Brady-

Steve Ganz at Linkedin was kind enough to test ustream.tv today from
their offices so we are good to go!

here is the DataPortability ustream.tv channel:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dataportability

trying to work out dial in details for remote users as ustream only
allows chat (which will be enabled)

I wrote a post on my findings for the DIY rel=me project
http://ungeekdapo.wordpress.com/2008/04/29/a-simple-data-portability-project-or-is-it/

Daniela requested that I cross post here to share the information for
the meetup tomorrow. For those of you that read it already, I updated
it with information on Google Social Graph APIs. I welcome your
feedback.

Wish I was there!

Actually I will be there next month for semantic-conference.com - along
with a bunch of SemWeb heads - would be good to have an (informal)
meetup that week at least [May 18-22] (as I guess the official one will
again be at the end of the month). Around the same time, the Google I/O
event will be on as well [May 28-29]...

Great meeting last night, I want to thank Daniela for setting it up,
Jim for letting us use LinkedIn cafeteria not to mention free food,
drinks, and beer, Phil for leading us through the DIY project, and of
