* the data behind http://ottawa.ca/eatsafe
others?
- Public library - an ingenius programmer in Victoria mashed public
library data with Amazon.com to inform the user if the book of
interest is available through the public library
- Laslty, and pardon my potential ignorance as I have not looked into
this application in any great depth, but the Child care app. from
Toronto appears to be quite useful / helpful.
You can try out some of the tools on the Library Labs page, including
a LibraryLookup bookmarklet
http://www.biblioottawalibrary.ca/lab/index_e.html
They don't seem to be maintaining the page any more though - what is
needed is a way to connect some more coders (in library terms
"superpatrons") with the library internal staff in order to update and
maintain the tools they've already put on their lab. I tried
contacting them because their LibX is out of date, but I didn't get a
response.

You're right; could you update the wiki with that info?
Looks like the location data is right at the top of the source for http://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en/main/library/location

In the last few days I've read and heard a few people ask about
scraping sites. Perhaps we should instead be asking the city for data
in easy to use formats. It takes 2 minutes to ask the web master for a
data feed. The library has a website feedback form here:
http://bibliottawalibrary.ca/forms/feedback_e.html I plan on asking
to get the feed of library locations/hours back and I encourage others
to ask for it as well.
Attached is a copy of the library location/hours feed from a few days
before they changed their site.

Another great resource of info is from the Ottawa Police. Currently
they are providing this to CrimeReports.com as you can see here:
Link: http://www.crimereports.com/map?search=Ottawa+Ontario
However no one is able to download the data from Crime Reports without
violating their terms.
This would be great data for either an alert system for neighbours to
signup for or for potential home buyers etc to know exactly what's
going on in any prospective neighbourhoods.
Also the Police create Crime Statistic pdfs which are great and useful
but again not that easy to use in a opendata format for other uses or
mashups.

crimestats.aspx
I would encourage this data to be opened up to the public as we as the
taxpayers pay for the Police service and are entitled to be able to
slice and dice the data they collect. Considering they are creating a
CrimeReports map and pdfs, this shouldn't be very difficult.
Just my 2 cents.

Delan: where can I find the terms of use for the Ottawa police? They
seem to be encouraging the use of the data with the list view of the
data (see the URL in the open data Ottawa wiki page for datasets).
The wiki page I'm talking about is this one: http://opendataottawa.pbworks.com/Requested-Datasets
http://www.crimereports.com/faq/downloadData
They only say commercial benefit is prohibited.

Of course, the ultimate goal would be to have those records in some
sort of structured data format like XML but I'm not holding my breathe
for that.

Thanks for updating the wiki. I'm not sure how ODO likes screen scraping, but definitely contact them. I'll ask around to see if I can find you someone as well.
