Subject: FW: [datacite-devs] DataCite Metadata Search available now
Dear All,

I've had a query about the DataCite metadata which I'm hoping someone can answer for me. Copied below:

Because the DataCite metadata is manually created, and the fact that it is not  possible for them to harvest existing metadata via a CSW service, maintenance of  DataCite metadata is going to be an issue, especially if publicly available via this search interface.

Do you know whether this maintenance overhead has been considered, and how it might work in practice?

Thanks and best wishes,
Sarah

Dear all,

I am happy to announce availability of DataCite's Metadata Search service. The
service can be accessed at http://search.datacite.org

DataCite Metadata Search offers a simple search interface for metadata
of datasets registered with MDS. Just type keywords in the search
field and hit the Enter key (or click on the Search button) to get a
list of results. You can drill into search results by any value in the
designated fields. You can also use more advanced queries e.g.

subject:geology ==> documents containing geology in metadata field subject
allocator:(BL OR TIB) ==> documents belonging to DataCite members BL or TIB
publicationYear:[2000 TO 2005] ==> documents published between 2000 and 2005
uploaded:[NOW-5DAYS TO NOW] ==> documents uploaded in the last 5 days

Apart from the user interface there is also an API. For more details see
the help page http://search.datacite.org/help.html

Please note indexing takes place once a day so this service not will
provide metadata submitted in the last 24h.

This is our first beta release so we encourage you to test the service
and we would love to hear your feedback.

Last but not least I'd like to thank all who contributed to this
release. Extra special thanks go to Sebastian Peters, TIB who provided
the implementation of this software.

Best wishes,
Ed
