Subject: DBUG> Sharing the knowledge

I've been a major recipient of the knowledge and fellowship that is a
constant in this forum and with DCADers, in general.

My little macro would never have been developed without help (major
amounts of) from folks far more knowledgeable than I could ever hope
to be.

Once when I was looking for a sub-contractor with critical, but
uncommon
skills, Dave Sargert popped up with contact information with a great
one. He came through at exactly the right time.
Those kind of examples don't even make note of the little tid-bits of
info that I see on the forum everyday. Those little things that become
a
part of my everyday tool-set.

You folks just have no idea of how grateful that I am for all of the
benefits that you've given to me over the years. If I can assist you
in
what ever ways that come up, please feel free to contact me directly.

As mentioned in other posts, sharing resources benefits us all,

Woody

Debuggers

I am having a problem with translation of a matieral supplier’s
drawings into datacad 10.5 . These autocad 2002 dwg’ s & dfx drawings

appear as a collection of outline dots instead of solid lines after
being imported into datacad. The supplier informs me these dwg’s are

autocad splines , the datacad dwg translater shows the lines to be
named continous to be translated to solid lines. I have autocad 2002

which I can open and view these drawings with, they appear as they
should. I am autocad ignorant and there is little that I know about

it other than to open it and view a drawing. These drawings are from
J.P.Weaver and have a lot of detail, scaning them and tracing over in
datacad

would be a lot of work, bitmap insert would seem to be equally
difficult to do and not allow for editing which they need for the
design.

Lurking forever on this forum , reading every message has help me a
great deal, could you good people give me a clue out of this jam?

Thank you

It's a big circle.
The GC's I suggested to you were the ones I used on the Hotel project
here in Taos.
When the Owner went belly-up we all got burned pretty bad.

Those guys were dying and really concerned about their futures. For
cowboys (which they are) to admit this to me was a huge leap. You and
your client came along at a time when they would "work for food" and
the timing of all of this still a topic of conversation when ever we
have the opportunity to "chat".

So, you and your client actually help a few "families" out by raising
your hand and asking for a bit of assistance...........and the circles
continue.

What's the easiest way to cut a void through a sloped roof (roof was =
made with RoofIt)? I thought there was a macro to let you do that from
a =
plan view.

I think you are referring to the smartvoid facility in 3DPlane

Well after playing a bit, I managed to use the 3d Knife option (in the
polygon menu) to cut a hole in the RoofIt Roof. I've never used this
tool before, and I'm not sure if I'm doing it 100% right, but it did
"cut" a hole in the roof. Need to play... errr research a bit - heck
might even break down and read the manual!!??!??!

[pause]

Nah where's the fun in that ;-)

Hmmmm - Good question! I thought I could do it with the "Voids" option
in the "slabs" menu - I do this in RBTools often - but it doesn't seem
to work with RoofIt. I mostly use RBTools for my 3d roofs, but like
you, I too thought there was a macro...

I think you do this by creating a sloped polygon/slab as you want the
hole, and then use the Voids menu to make it into a hole.

The difficulty is in creating a matching polygon/slab to use as the
void, since the slope and thickness need to match. We ended up using
Knife, but other suggestions were (3DTOOLS - 3DPlane - Slabs -
SmartVoid), Build Roof macro, and 3D Planes macro.

Thanks all, for the assist!

The 3D Planes macro will work for this. Select polygons and you will
get a menu with voids, smartVoid, SmartPrt (for adding, deleting,
moving vertices). I find it easiest to use this command and just add
vertices to create the opening in the roof (track back to your
starting point like you would in a hatching polyline to “hide” the
seam in the roof).

I sometimes use the Pitched Slab portion of this macro too, to do more
complex roof forms than Roofit can do.

Yes this (which involved de-construction) or Roof Builder Tools

Subject: Symbols/templates

Noticed a reference to symbols and templates in the DataCAD Forum and
some
of the difficulties in tracking.

Just tossing this out.... I've been using DataCAD since Ver. 3.0 and
early
on, realized that with every update, re-installation, etc., I was
bumping
into the same problem of locating and using symbols that I'd revised
or
added. My solution was to place the symbols and templates into their
own
unique folder in C:\. My choice of names were 1Sym and 1Tpl. The
subfolder
groupings went into those. The reason for the 1 before the identifier
was to
have those folders be shown at the top of the list in DOS and works
the same
in Windows.

At first, I had a few editing issues in DOS, but since then, templates
and
symbols have been easy to find and access, even when I have had
several
versions of DataCAD installed all at the same time.

This might not be totally appropriate for you if your a network user,
but in
stand alone systems, it works great.

Having fun everyday using DataCAD,

Woody

Every once in a while on a drawing the grid angle will go from 8

only 3. I have looked every where on how to reset this but I cant
seem to
find anything.

Subject: DBUG> Associative Dimension Stretch

Making changes to a plan I am needing to stretch my associative
dimensions. How do I know where the point of the extension was if the
dimension was not stretched with the wall corner. Is there some sort
of indicator that I can turn on, I find myself either deleting the
dimension and creating new or moving the string far away from my
drawing, stretching a large area to catch the point in no-man’s land
and then moving back.

We don’t use a lot of associative dimensions but I am trying to get
into it more and more.

I didn’t find my answer on the forum posts, so many to search thru.
