The center roller button on your mouse or select dolly then left mouse
button and move up or down.

Now I need the time to figure out how to use Kerky productively.

Yes, I understood that is the case. I would say Florida is much the
same. I think I would try to find a way to remove the wood entirely if
possible and replace with something that is more resistant.

I would have to see it to know for sure though what exactly I would do
in such a case.

Usually a slab goes right on top of the vapor barrier with any
penetrations being thoroughly sealed. Back then, most builders still
tried to design the building with most of the plumbing, wiring, etc.
as
close to the outside as possible. That way if something goes wrong you
can get to most of it by digging instead of busting concrete. Now with
a
raised floor, I would assume you would do the same thing with a stub
wall poured first, then backfilled with some material that is not
likely
to move when compressed and then compress it anyhow, vapor barrier,
and
then pour the concrete.

There may be a better solution in his case like replacing with metal
and
carefully removing the other stuff. A lot of this to me would depend
upon what type of builders he is working with.

If you need to replace a "he" with a "you", I apologize, as my memory
is
not what it used to be.

The last thing you said is very true. I wonder how so called
manufactured homes (trailers) can get by with using a vapor barrier,
directly under the joists. This along with the roof designs could be
made better while only minimally costing more. It really is amazing
what
some will do just for short term profit. In many cases the right long
lasting way may even cost less from the start.

Sorry I was not clear. You are correct, a vapor barrier on top of the
soil
is helpful to reducing the humidity under the building. I do this
often in
our south Louisiana climate. What I meant was there is considerable
risk of
placing a vapor barrier either at the bottom of the floor joist or
under the
floor sheathing because any moisture that condenses in the floor joist
space
can be trapped and cause rot.

- -----
- --2. Reduce the humidity under the flooring. Some would advise
adding
a vapor barrier under the floor joist. The additional risk of
trapping
moisture between the new and old vapor barriers may create an
unacceptable risk--

Florida is different in this respect at least in the area he is in.
Water is probably just below the surface. I have seen vapor barrier
right on top of the ground down there but usually a concrete slab is
next and even that can get wet above.

It's a funky place down there and I know there are some historic
buildings built from cypress but I wonder how exactly wood got OK'd in
the first place?

This is off topic.
I would appreciate some suggestions for a structural engineer with
Coastal Flood Zone abilities licensed in Rhode Island.
They can be located in MA, or RI or even NE.

I am also looking for recommendations for a Mechanical Engineer, with
special capabilities in Energy, etc.
Its for a large house.

Thanks.
Rick

All of a sudden my arail font has gone italic and I can't fix it. I
thought
there was something wrong with Eudora but it is now turning up
everywhere.
I can only assume there is a glitch in Windows. Any comments?

For most fonts the italic variant is the one that follows the "normal"
version (e.g., non-italic, non-bold) so italics would make sense if
something has gone wrong with the base.

Start by going to Control, Fonts and see if the file ARIAL.TTF is
there. If
not, meaning it has somehow gotten deleted, you can retrieve it from
another
computer. Go to File, Install New Font to put it onto your machine.

If it IS there, do the above procedure anyway, in case the existing
file is
corrupt or Windows has "forgotten" that it's there.

Perhaps obviously, that should be Control PANEL, Fonts ...

Yes. It has taken me a few days to realise that the matter isn't
confined
to Eudoira

Thanks Larry, you're right, the file was missing. It was clear that at
least one other was too, or were corrupted. I tried to copy them all
in off
another computer but you have to delete the ones you want to replace
first. This prewsupposes you know what they actually are. I tried to
delete
them all and got into all sorts of strife. In the end I was obliged to
install a fresh XP but that was self-inflicted!!

This is the sort of thing you read about but it always happens to
somebody
else. I have never had such a problem before.
