Cycles

To Andy and the group.
     Sometimes I wax romantic - hope you understand. If I showed this to anyone other than this group, they would not understand.

     There could be undetectable, million-year, galactic cycles, and universal cycles could last longer - cycles so long our records would not detect them. To prying, galactic intelligence, we are infinitesimal, not even microscopic - a particle, a quark, or a neutrino are we? Nay, not even that.  Whose hand tossed the dice now rumbling across the heavens? The hidden dwarfs are smiling at us - red, brown, and grinning at our naivete. Do we court ignorance on our path to evolve? How do we become aware? The dwarfs were hiding all along, waiting - waiting for us to see..
     "Look," they said, "They've finally found us, and one of them discovered the 3600 year cycle, but for the greed of a few, the truth may again be lost. It is time."
     For scholars, there would be no thrill knowing everything. Someday a new man will dig and discover, and hold our records to the sunlight, and again exclaim, "Oh, it's such a wonderful myth." Al C.

A few cycles back:

A GIANT METEOR - NOT OVERHUNTING - WIPED OUT THE WOOLLY MAMMOTH BECAUSE IT STRUGGLED TO COPE WITH THE RAPID CLIMATE CHANGE THAT FOLLOWED - 21 May 2013 
* A meteor hitting the Earth 12,800 years ago released toxic gases into the air and blocked out the sun causing temperatures to plummet and plants to die 
* Some species managed to adapt but the woolly mammoth died out 
It has long been thought that hunting was the cause of the creatures’ extinction, but researchers have now revised their opinion. 
They believe a huge meteor smashing through the Earth's atmosphere broke up into ten million tonnes of fiery fragments, scattering over four continents. These fragments are thought to have released toxic gas which poisoned the air and blacked out the sun, causing temperatures to plummet, plants to die and landscapes to alter forever.
