Astronomers Discover Radio Waves From Brown Dwarf

Penn State University astronomers have discovered record-breaking
radio waves from an ultra-cool star that is not much warmer than the
planet Jupiter.

The team used a giant 1,000-feet radio telescope at Arecibo, Puerto
Rica to look for radio signals from a class of objects known as brown
dwarfs. Brown dwarf’s bridge the gap between gas giant planets, and
hydrogen-fusing stars.

The astronomers found that a brown dwarf named J1047+21 that lies 33.6
light years away in the constellation Leo could help boost the odds of
discovering life in other places in the universe.

“This object is the coolest brown dwarf ever detected emitting radio
waves — it’s half the temperature of the previous record holder,
making it only about five times hotter than Jupiter,” Matthew Route, a
graduate student at Penn State and the lead author of the discovery
paper, said in a press release.

The newly discovered star has a surface temperature that is not much
higher than that of a giant plant, and is scarcely visible in optical
light.

The radio flares seen at the giant telescope show that the star has a
strong magnetic field, which could imply that the same could be true
of other similar stars, according to the researchers.

“We hope that in the future we’ll be able to detect yet colder brown
dwarfs, and possibly even giant planets around other stars,”
Wolszczan, an Evan Pugh Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics and
the leader of the project, said.

He said the possibility that young, hot planets around other stars
could be detected in the same way the team did has implications for
the chances of finding life in other places in the Milky Way Galaxy.

“The Earth’s field protects life on its surface from harmful particles
of the solar wind,” Wolszczan said. “Knowing whether planetary
magnetic fields are common or not throughout the Galaxy will aid our
efforts to understand chances that life may exist beyond the Solar
System.”

Discovering the brown dwarf through radio signals helps broaden the
window through which astronomers are able to study the atmosphere and
interiors of this class of stars.

The researchers said that the brown dwarf’s atmosphere must be made of
neutral gas, which would not give off radio signals like they saw.
So, the energy to drive the signals is coming from magnetic fields
found deep inside the star, according to the astronomers.

The astronomers said that this field is similar to the field that
protects the Earth from dangerous high-energy particles.

The astronomers will be able to determine how stable the magnetic
field is over time by monitoring J1047 +21, and also find out the size
of the emitter itself from flare duration.

The research was published in The Astrophysical Journal, a peer-
reviewed scientific journal published by the Institute of Physical for
the American Astronomical Society.

     I certainly am not an expert in astronomy or electrical engineering but the mysterious discoveries made by our space probes are far better explained by the Electric Universe model (EU)
          Something doesn't seem quiet right here:
 
The researchers said that the brown dwarf’s atmosphere must be made of

        They assume a lot here. Neutral gas? How about charged plasma? Magnetic fields deep in the earth? Like a dynamo? They say they've discovered a BD but are calling it a star. They could have at least said it was an undeveloped star, or, a 'star' that ended up in a neutral zone of space where the differential current became balanced, thus shutting down the effects of a high electrical potential difference much the same way a comet glows when entering the highly-charged positive environment of our sun. Doing this, of course, would mean acceptance of electricity in space.
 
       They call this "a newly discovered "star" and that is has "a strong magnetic field."  They are saying the energy to drive the signal is coming from "deep" inside the "star," - again, are they calling this a Brown Dwarf or a star? - and that this "field" is similar to the field that protects the earth from dangerous high-energy particles - what astronomers call the magnetosphere and described in the EU model as a Langmuir sheath.
         The field that protects the earth is not located "deep inside" the earth but flowing around the earth in a comet-like shape. Yes, they have detected electromagnetic radiation but it is radiated out in space by the BD because of the electrical resistance (impedance) held within the electromagnetic field surrounding the BD. This energy is being dissipated in the form of light, heat, and RADIO WAVES!  "Radio waves are a predictable effect of electric currents as energy is dissipated in stellar and galactic circuits." Thornhill. The Electric Sky.
          Earth is surrounded by a complex structure of plasma/magnetic fields, a complex structure of high-speed charged particles, "It is the universal reservoir of electromagnetic energy and the medium for its discharge. This universal electric potential is not dependent upon, or generated by, gravitationally driven dynamos." A satellite above earth's pole detected electrons streaming from earth toward the sun. Electrons race from Jupiter to the sun. Electric currents are active between the planets and sun within our solar system. If planetary magnetic fields and "electrical connections" are common in our solar system, which, apparently they are, then they are common throughout the universe.
         Reading their description of what they found was very confusing to me. I suppose what I think makes sense to me, but, hopefully, this may clarify the importance of the discovery. That BD is highly active and energy-charged much as our earth. Radio waves give it away. It could very well harbor life or contain life sustaining bodies in its orbit. Hope I haven't confused myself.   Al C.  
 
PS: Hey, remember the Tethered Satellite System experiment in 1996. After about 12 miles was strung out from the shuttle Columbia - ZAP!  Burned into. What were they thinking! A modern, Ben Franklin, crazy stunt. "Here kid, go fly this kite attached to a copper wire" :-) And the Space Elevator concept - a 60,000 mile lightning rod - an even crazier stunt. Maybe it could have been properly engineered but don't hire me to work on it. Don't they realize the electric potential of charge in space. Why do you think several of the Mars probes failed? That's another story.  Peace, maybe I'm bored. AC

If its composite is neutral gas then wouldn't that define it as a large planet beginning its burn cycle?

Could be. "Must be" they said, which means they don't know. Yes, I'd say a BD could ignite into a star - the same as a star "burning out" and becoming a BD. Just speculating: A star could be similar to ball lightning. On earth it last seconds and burns out. That could translate to millions of years with huge stars I believe someone speculated that Jupiter came close to igniting. Or, am I remembering the movie 2001 Space Odyssey.??

I can bet somebody has way before me, I still think jupiter may one day do it as its still contracting an we really do know little about what happens under such massive pressure conditions and nuclear reaction (we presume there is one way and one way only) mainline science once again ignoring the obvious and thinking we are all knowing, we do know jupiter lost one of its belts of cloud and its magnetic field doubled in recent years, witch also indicates increased core activity.

One thing I would think would shake it all up, a lighting bolt from jupiter shooting at one of its moons, the possibility of that I don't know. But it would be big spoon stirring the pot up aha
