Welcome to the Dance Organizers Discussion Group
At our first meeting on December 6th, 2007, a wide variety of dance organizers got together to share ideas and generate synergy. I'm hoping we can have a face-to-face meeting on an annual basis. Between meetings, we can use this dance organizer discussion group to continue the conversation. Documents (web pages) related to the discussion are also stored here.
Many of us showed great courage in starting up a dance series without any help from more experienced dance organizers. We flew by the seat of our pants, learning on the fly the hard way – by trial and error. Once we were up and running, we quickly found out that the learning process is never over. There's always something we can change to make the dances run more smoothly, make it more fun for the dancers. Sometimes we need to relearn things we thought we learned a few years ago. For example, with the advent of new technologies, the means of communicating with dancers and promoting our dances has changed considerably. To be successful today, we need to make good use of these technologies, especially when trying to reach young audiences.
We applaud your hard work and dedication in bringing traditional music and dance to your community. Because of you, many potential couch potatoes are getting exercise, having fun and connecting with each other. We hope that you will be join us in continuing this conversation.
