I did make a window of time today to work on the 16 x 12 still life I
showed you two days ago. Here it is newly modifed and "improved".
No longer bland, it has better light, better values and better
color. Sometimes putting a work aside for a year or two can make a
major difference in the end product. You just get smarter. Smarter
about what to do to make a painting go from "ho-hum" to "ho-Whoa"!
I would still work on this if I had the window of opportunity to
work at leisure. But as you well know from yesterday, I don't. I
just came in about 15 minutes ago (check the time stamp on this
email!) so you can see I'm putting in some long hours at the
hospital. I did get time to tweak this work before heading over
there. My choices were to contrast the background with the flowers
and to lighten the values in the vase and foreground cloth. I wanted
to consciously stick to the complementary blue/orange scheme,
though. The end result is far better than that "other thing".
I have to share that so many of you wrote to me about yesterday,
sharing your own stories, offering insight, and your thoughts and
prayers, that I was moved to tears on reading many of them. I had no
idea the choice to send the most personal of paintings would elicit
such a response. You have made me realize the tremendous importance
you give to my images, and to what they bring to your lives. I will
honor that, and treasure it, and hope to continue to positively
affect you. My mother is resting comfortably today and I'll just
leave it at that.
