A little bit of branding talk here. Do we agree to use #d3js as a hashtag for Twitter, since #d3.js crops the .js and makes it clash with Diablo3?
On the web, the official name seems to be D3 in uppercase with or without the .js extension as in D3.js. It still clashes with Diablo3, Nikon D3 and maybe even Mighty Ducks 3, even if D3 comes before them on Google. Searching for "D3.js" is still the best way to filter the others out, so we should probably consider using the .js extension at list once in every blog post we write about D3. Any counterarguments?

on google search, D3 can bring up a host of other things... so I always search by either d3js or d3.layoutName d3.method etc

And also vitamin D3 :)
"d3js" seems to be used for Twitter, Pinterest, Wikipedia and everytime the name as to be standardized to be used, as in URLs. So:

-Official name D3
-Alternate: D3.js, d3.js
-Hashtag: #d3js
-URLs: d3js
-StackOverflow: d3.js

But maybe we could try to avoid:
-Hashtag: #d3.js, #d3 (to help with referencing)
-Name: d3, d3js (to help with branding)
