What is the best layout to show thousands of nodes

Hi,
I have a graph where there are over 8000 nodes (would increase for
sure)...
Most happen to connect to one node and when the nodes show it quite
cramped.
What is the best layout to use in this case.
Also is it possible to choose 2 graphs and get a listing of all the
nodes in the path.
I am still working with this tool.
