Hi all,
wondering why this is not taking off.
I left a message last week, nobody replied.
Left a tweet, but no new members.
I get new messages in my mail box every day from Panam-riders and the
mailing is really alive. Why can't this happen here?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Ali

Hi Ali, hi all!

We started the mailing list when we left South America and were heading to ride in SE Asia for 4 months. Thought it would be great to have something like Panam-riders, specially when trying to navigate the sometimes complicated burocratic mess of Asia. On the road we found out that we had trouble keeping up with our inbox, let alone making the mailing list come alive. So that's one thing that is a difference between Panam-riders and this one, but we are not ready to give up.

As Naomi said, it takes time for the list to grow, but also some work, specially in the form of posting interesting topics that come up when you are on the road.

And on that note... Who do you follow or what websites do you check when you want to prepare a trip on Asia. For instance, for us when in China, we found specially interesting these two cruzy guys on a bike:

What about you guys?

Hello Asia cyclists,

Giving a reaction on Alicia's mail from last week:

Personally I'm not such a big fan of Crazyguyonabike. The information might be there, but it's hard to find, often outdated and the site is pretty dull. It doesn't give me much inspiration to go cycling, to be honest.

If I would try and find something now, I would probably try and find it on Lonely Planet's Thorntree: http://is.gd/B565pJ. It is handy when it comes to the 'tricky' visa questions, because most info you'll find is quite up-to-date. It has a separate 'on-your-bike' section, which is useful.

We've cycled in Asia in 1996 (SouthEast Asia) and from 2007 to halfway 2008 (Turkey to Japan) and have quite a bit of info about the continent and the countries that we cycled through on our own site: www.tour.tk. Maybe this is useful to some of you, we've tried to give as much info as possible about distances, food, cost of living, maps etc.
This site comes highly recommended of course ;-)

I've build a links page with a few other sites I recommend and used for inspirational reasons: http://www.tour.tk/cycle-touring-and-travel-links-other-cyclists.htm
Here's a link with bike forums and directories too:

That's it for now from me. Enjoy the ride!
