How would you guys feel about having some enamel pins and/ or patches
made for the group. I thought it might be cool to have an enamel pin
that complements the Assoc. of Caffeinated Wheelman pins that many of
us have.

I'll get in touch with Jon Grinder to see where he had them made if
you guys are interested.

If you'd like to buy one of the ACW pins contact Jon through the email
in his profile

I might be interested at some point, but now's not really a good time for me, money-wise ...

I hear you Michael, I'm in the same boat. I thought if we could get
the price below $10 per person it might be worth trying sometime in
the future. Just browsing around I've seen prices for !" pins from $2
to $2.69 per pin for an order of 100. I'm sure we could find something
cheaper.

Let us know, 2.69 seems pretty cheap to me. I could swing five dollars without too much trouble.
Thanks Miles.

Yeah, that is cheap, but would we need 100 of them?

isn't it only 269 if we bought 100?

one thing i find annoying with buttons is that they rust.
i have some on my hi-vis vests which have rusted and bled through the vests :(
i don't know if these enamel kind would be any different. i truly do not know.

i bought one for bikeDFW which i think is from etse or dazzle.
it was a large button for about $3 (retail to consumer).

With 20 members thats 5 pins each. That's not too bad. Everybody
always wants the ACW pins when they see them. They look good on canvas
bags and stuff. Plus they would be nice, inexpensive, gifts for bike
shop owners, city officials, and others that might help out on one of
our future rides.

There are lots of other ways to get money for stuff like this. If I
come across some extra money sometime soon, I may consider just having
them made and sell them individually like the ACW guys did.

I like the idea and would be inclined to pile on my support if it
helps the group.

My guess is that if we had a snazzy design to look at, we'd be able to
generate a fairly high level of interest.

Who's the artist of the BABBLE bunch?

Suggested BABBLE Pin or Patch Design. I was inspired by the ACW pin
and kind of freehanded the letters; the symbols are:

Longhorn = Fort Worth
Map of Texas = Texas
Bicycle = (duh)

A little tweak to get rid of the overlapping Bs which don't look to
good in a small pic.

I guess that depends on what you want BABBLE to be. If it's a local riding group, then that's what it is. But if it's a loose conglomerate of bike blogging illuminati, it should be more inclusive, and reflect the global scope of blogs.

Nice start, Paul. That longhorn, however, is a little painful for an
Aggie to swallow.

Doohickie, that's not too bad for somebody who's not a graphic artist.
Like Mike pointed out, the Texas stuff probably won't be real popular
with guys like Big Oak up in Indiana.

I finally got in touch with Jon Grinder. He gave me the email address
for the guy that did the artwork and had the pins made for the Assoc.
of Caffeinated Wheelmen. I'll contact him and see what he has to say.

On the contrary.... the heart of BABBLE is in the DFW area. I don't
see putting the Texas roots on the pin as a bad thing. Just my
opinion though. I can see getting rid of the longhorn though since it
is apparently pretty darned offensive to some.

In other news.... this frame: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/bik/1443555058.html
is for sale on Craigslist and it would build up nicely with the
components from the Nishiki I crashed and bent the frame on. He says
"interesting trades" are possible; I've got a couple of bikes I could
put up for trade, plus maybe a little $ and maybe I could get a deal,
if the frame is still available.

I saw that earlier. Even if you had to pay full price, I don't think
$55 is too bad for a good frame with the headset, bottom bracket, and
seatpost, included. Go for it.

I tried to call about a half hour ago (too late? maybe, but the ad
says call any time). No answer. Then about ten minutes ago, I got a
call back from that number, but couldn't make out any intelligible
conversation; sounds like a party at the other end. I may try to call
tomorrow. It's my off-Friday and I plan to work on a Habitat for
Humanity build, but if I decide to go for the frame I could leave a
little early. I'll probably call back late morning tomorrow if I
remember.

Any idea what model of Nishiki that is, and if it's any good?

It looks it might be a Nishiki Sport.

What do you think?

Doohickie

Looks that way. This means several things:

1. "Sport" usually indicates "low end" in most bicycle lines

2. Kent (Derby)-built Nishiki, not a Kuwahara.

3. Probably 700c wheels; the wheels I have for it are 27".

May not work.... :(

Still, if I can work something I may get it.
