The long rumored gDrive is here. Anyone get a whirl yet? I write this as I download it :)

Well... this article is a little disconcerting, but I guess this the same policy for all google services, so in effect we've already given up our rights to own our work :)

I am using http://wuala.com/en/learn/technology

on my Mac, PC and Android.  I'll probably add it to my iPad too.  Same free 5G quota of cloud disk space, but your files are encrypted.

You really don't have a choice whether to use it or not. My Gdocs app disappeared, and it's place was Drive.

I noticed that - but had you (Coop) signed up for GDrive before that transition happened?  Or gDocs simply get re-branded?

Since I mainly associate with geeks, we all jumped into gDrive as soon as it was announced, and so all of us had already signed our lives away (once again) and so have had our gDocs become gDrive

Has any gDocs user in this group NOT signed up for gDrive?  If so, has your gDocs automagically been moved/transferred.

BTW - someone I don't know but must be in some group with learned the hard way that a script that was released to automatically move gmail attachments into gDrive doesn't work well.  It not only moved the files, but shared the files with anyone he has ever interacted with - so I get to see his grocery list, scanned receipts, and secret recipe for Grandma's Ratatouille.  Ouch.   I don't know if this script was a hack or an official google release... I would assume the former.

Look before you leap ;)

I am trying to wrap my mind around the differences between this and other cloud shared storage (most specifically for me, Dropbox, which I pay for like $10 a month).

Interesting. I don't recall signing up for GDrive, yet I was automatically converted. I'm not interested in switching until Google has all the add on support we have for Dropbox: Dropittome, Jotform, Send to Dropbox, Airdropper, WappWolf, Wordpress Backup to Dropbox, and others. They all work great. Why change?

Change because I want to pay ONE, not many. I pay Dropbox. IF I can get what I need from gDrive, then I am not paying Dropbox anymore. I'd rather pay Google more.

I never signed up for Google Drive. My ancient gmail account still shows Documents in the menu bar. No automatic switcheroo (yet) - but there are "switch to google drive!" messages all over the place. A newer gmail account created last weekend was automatically on Google Drive from the get go - no Docs in any menu anywhere.

Hey Ruvi,
Do you know if gDrive will be compatible with ASU's BB?
Today, 5/21, it's still in the future. My gDocs are still on it. How
about Wuala?
