Subject: Adobe Creative Suite Licensing Announcement
Date: Mon, 7 May 2012 13:56:22 -0700
From: Sasan Poureetezadi <spou...@mesacc.edu>
To: undisclosed-recipients:;

MCC Campus Community,

MCC ITS is pleased to announce that MCC, along with our sister colleges and the District Office, has finalized an Adobe Creative Suite licensing agreement that covers Design Premium and Master Collection. The agreement provides the following benefits:

• Ability to install on all MCC owned computers
• At home use for all MCC faculty and staff
• Broad access to an in-demand application
• Single point of management and purchase

Installation Process/Schedule:

• MCC ITS will immediately begin taking requests through the HelpCenter for "At Home" use (please email: HelpC...@mesacc.edu) for details
• MCC ITS will begin faculty and staff desktop installations during the first summer session of 2012
• MCC ITS, in coordination with academic departments and the Library, will schedule summer installations of the CS Suite in computing labs and the library

MCC ITS would like to thank the MCC cabinet, MCC faculty, and the District Office for their ongoing support of this important initiative. The Adobe agreement signifies our coordinated efforts to support broad access to technology, enhance teaching and learning, and promote student success through a One Maricopa model.

Sincerely,

Sasan Poureetezadi
VPIT/CIO

Interesting. Since it says "at home use" but not "at home installation" I'm going to guess they are licensing similar to what SCC has done and that use from home would be through Citrix to campus servers running CS in a Windows environment.

Different campuses negotiated somewhat different licensing agreements.
My campus first tier helpdesk hasn't heard a word yet. Keep bugging
your Helpdesk for info? Not going to roll out to all of us at the same
time.

My dept has the master collection - hope I can eventually get al that at home!

I do som of my best work in the evenings at home. I hope I can do the
same. I think we will have the Master's Collection as well and I was
told that PC has the information and is working on the process for
installation and distribution now. *crosses fingers*

But doesn't SCC have some aspects of it as part of Citrix virtualization? ...r

Adobe changed their licensing agreement so Adobe CS5 is no longer available off-campus via MySCC.  College computer have access but the response is slow.  You definitely have better performance when it is installed locally.  All the classrooms that teach it have it on the computers.

I agree, using any components of the Creative Suite over Citrix is awful. It's great for Word and Excel documents but when the whole screen has to be redrawn every second in realtime it becomes impossible to really see what you're doing working with graphics. And my students always had a terrible time backing up the files they created to their USB device. All of them gave up by halfway through the semester and just tried to make it to open lab in the art building to use CS software. You may as well not have over network access at all.

I just installed the master collection on my laptop. It took 9 hours for it to download via wifi in my hilton hotel.

I'm afraid to even ask if we have the license at GCC. I'm not in the mood to be disappointed, so I'll just wait.
