G'day Cameron,

Suggest you validate your page here: http://validator.w3.org/

You can ignore most of the errors (eg. the alt tag problems) but I
think the incorrectly closed HTML comment is causing the issue.

Simon,

What has changed in the last month?  I have numerous sites with the
sames errors.  These all worked fine until this month.  Was there a
recent upgrade?  This is a real headache for me and my clients.

G'day,

As I mentioned you really need to close the HTML comment properly as it's
invalidating your HTML.

I'm sorry you think so, but there have been no changes to Cushy recently,
and your poorly-formed HTML is causing the issue.

As far as I can tell, it's one simple ! on line 156 of your code (as I told
you 9 days ago).

Good luck finding your backspace key.

It's errors across multiple sites.  And if that's your attitude perhaps I should take my $30 monthly fees with me and the 12 or so other designer friends I recommended this to?  Backspace key works well on paypal subscriptions too I hope you know.

I cannot believe you wrote that to a paying client?

Cameron, or Dan, I have been nothing but pleasant to you in regards to your
issue.  If you think "Bad answer." is the way to speak to someone who is a)
trying to help you, and b) giving you the *correct* answer, is the best way
to have your issue resolved, then you are doing yourself no favours here.

If you have other sites/pages with the same issue, please let me know which
ones so I can investigate further.  If they have the same issue with the
unclosed HTML comment, then you really need to fix it -- I cannot do this
for you.

Feel free to email enquir...@statelesssystems.com with your grievance.

I have tracked down an executive of stateless thru linkedin and will address this with them.  You never gave me a specific answer 10 days ago.  I also asked 10 days ago about other problems or if there had been a change as the last two years have been fine as I see others were also having FTP issues as well.

If you think "good luck finding your backspace key" or "poorly formed HTML"  is pleasant or appropriate comment to be telling a paying customer with a support question regardless of thier level of knowledge or thier intial response..then I will reserve my decision of where our next monthly fee goes after I take this up with someone within your company.   We currently have 3 paying accounts thru us and our clients.

I think you have said and helped enough and cushy's customer support efforts should maybe be passed on to someone else.

"Dan"  is an open gmail account used by all of us in our office for groups or other technical forums so we all have access to answers.  One of my non technical staff have already texted me "did he really just type that and he works for that company?".

I am appalled.

Cameron or Dan,

(I do not work for Cushy but here is a little insight)

The first thing when troubleshooting is to clear everything in-house first
before blaming something/someone else. In this case you need to make sure
that your server is running correctly (which it appears to be) and then
make sure that your code is valid and correct. Yes it might have worked a
year ago.. it might have worked this morning, but before blame can be
placed elsewhere you need to make sure your code is correct, because
invalid code can and does affect how Cushy reads your page. Is this the
problem? It might be, it might not be.. but considering there are probably
thousands of websites being managed through Cushy and you are the only
person with this issue, then chances are it has something to do with your
site(s).

So let's do some quick little troubleshooting beyond your poorly written,
excessive table friendly, excessive inline CSS, and excessive inline
Javascript page... You mention you are getting a "non editable elements
error" which I'm assuming is an error where Cushy is not seeing your tags..
You mention that you have a Pro account, and I see in your page you are
using a class called "clienteditor" I'm going to assume that you are using
that as your custom class name instead of cushycms. You also mentioned that
multiple sites have recently started having this issue.. I'm going to
assume that all of those sites have "clienteditor" as the custom Cushy
tag.. Have you verified that your Pro account is still active? If it is NOT
active, then you probably need to pay/reactivate your Pro account to take
advantage of the custom tag names. If it IS active then did you verify that
the custom tag name is still "clienteditor"? If it is NOT client editor,
then that is most likely your problem and you need to correct it. If it IS
correct, what happens when you change your div class on the page from
clienteditor back to cushycms? Does it work now? Then you probably need to
contact Cushy and tell them that your custom tag name is not working - and
also fix your poorly written HTML. Does it still not work? Then you need to
fix your poorly written HTML. Once you fix it, does it work? Yes.. then
great. No? Then contact Cushy.

However it sounds like an issue with your account settings and the custom
tag name, or an issue with your account. I highly suggest you look into
that.

Subject: Re: FTP Error as well
G'day Dan,

There have been no changes to the production version of CushyCMS in
the past 2-3 months. There are plans for some new stuff soon, but no
specifics yet.

We have had a few comments/questions from clients recently in similar
vein to this, getting the generic ftp error of "page not found".
Unfortunately CushyCMS can't be anymore accurate with this error,
since all CushyCMS knows is the FTP details for logging in and path
for finding the page. If the page moves for whatever reason (and there
are many) then there isn't much we can do beyond that.

In these other cases I refer to, from other clients, all of them were
caused by their hosting company or web designer moving things around
on the FTP server. 1 case was the hosting company changing the default
login path without telling the users. Another case the web designer
renamed a folder and forgot to update the cushy details. In all of
these cases, the error can always be solved by removing and re-adding
the page. This is technically an extreme solution, as it could also be
fixed by simply updating the page settings with the new correct ones.

I'm not suggesting this is your problem exactly, but it is the most
common problem hitting the groups of late. In terms of the 2 specific
problems you mentioned here, as Simon correctly pointed out, 1 is due
to a missing </html> tag at the end of the document and the other is
due to an unclosed HTML comment tag. As CushyCMS needs to parse your
HTML to find editable sections, the HTML must be what the W3C refer to
as "well formed".

If you have other specific issues other than the 2 above, I'd be more
than willing to look at them personally if you want to email me
directly or just provide me with links to the specific pages that are
having issues.

regards,
Danial
