Hi ALL,

I think that the Lone GIS pro session will be great for those in the lone(ly) GIS business or those who are considering branching out on their own. Below is an extract from the email that was just send out by WAURISA as a last minute conference reminder.

I hope to see many of you there and have lively discussion.

Cheers
Karsten

Four Lone GIS Professionals who each run their own business invite you to learn from their experiences and those of other audience members during The Lone GIS Professional: Running Your Own Business panel. David Howes (panel leader), a Geospatial Information Scientist & Owner of David Howes, LLC; Matt Stevenson, Principal at CORE GIS, LLC; Karsten Vennemann, GIS Consultant at Terra GIS Ltd.; and Michele Savelle, Owner of Michele Savelle GIS & Graphic Design will highlight their background and focus, how they develop their business, as well as the challenges and benefits of being a solo GIS practitioner. Contributions from attendees are welcome. For those already on their own in business, the session should provide a chance to hear from and help others in a similar situation. For those looking to follow a similar path, the session should provide encouragement and serve as a positive step in a new and potentially rewarding direction. The panelists invite you to join them and other participants at their table during the Tuesday evening social at Big E Ales for a chance to chat about the session.

Actually to all techno geeks out there a question: Is anyone around that has knowledge about how we possibly could record the panel discussion in somewhat decent quality and audio for others to see later? We already got several requests along that line, but as it stands right now (unfortunately) it unlikely  that we will record the session because of lack of knowledge (on how to do that in the organizational format of a panel discussion) and equipment .
Please let us know any ideas about that

Cheers
Karsten

Hi Karsten,

I don't know about doing video, but this little device [0] is pretty nice. I've never used one myself, but I've heard meetup and pannel sessions recorded by it, the cross-directional mic does a good job in that kind of setting. Plus, if there's a proper audio system setup, you can plug it directly into the mixing board. I'm told it's pretty easy for a novice to use.
