Victoria,

I love this Breakfast Series idea! Sounds awesome and easy to execute.

What can we do to help you make it successful?

(CC’ing the Norcal board –– say hello to Victoria!)

Cheers!

I work with CVC and InSITE. I do a lot of informal gatherings for CBS. My interest would be in things related to the entrepreneurial ecosystem. There's 2 things on my mind today.

1) I am starting a Breakfast Series. Very small (15-20) person breakfasts with successful Silicon Valley alumni / visitors and then also start to bring in external persons that could dramatically propel the careers of those attending. I think smaller curated venues are more useful than large panel gatherings for Columbia alum who know what they are looking for. It would be wonderful to work with CAA on this. I have been to ones done by other schools and they are very good for engagement.

2) I'm interested in a Columbia Angel group investing in Columbia student and alumni entrepreneurs. We have some great Founders from CU, but nothing quite like Mentortech (UPenn, Harvard Angel Group, etc.). Or if we do have one, I haven't seen them yet in any deals and would love to connect with them if you can.

Those are the two big projects I think that will be both impactful for Columbia alumni and for building a closer relationship and community between the alums themselves, and between the alums and the school here in Silicon Valley.

Let me know what you think. The former I am planning to organize one starting in July. And then do them once per month or once per quarter depending on the interest and the ability early on to garner interest from cool speakers. The latter will probably take a little more time.

Hi Folks,

To echo Ryan’s sentiment –– and I’m so glad he’s on the email list! –– we’d love to have more CVC presence and influence on the board. The more go-getter startup people in the room the better.

Cheers!

FYI - important upcoming meeting hosted by CAA

Who from CVC can attend and represent us, in addition to Nadine and Matt who are already members of the board? I cannot go because I'm out of the country through the 23rd.

Thanks,

Dear All

Thanks so much for your interest in wanting to volunteer for the NorCal alumni club. This is a very exciting time for NorCal! In the coming months, the club and the CAA will work together to restructure the board and committees, as well as do more thinking into how to increase engagement in the region.

The volunteer meeting will be on Sunday, 6/21 from 1-2pm. Location will be in SF. More details to come.

Questions to consider prior to the meeting:
* What do you think are the top interests of the alumni population?
* What types of events and programs would you like to see more of in NorCal?
* In which area(s) would you like to volunteer your time - event planning, student relations, University communications, club communications and website management, etc.
* Which parts of NorCal should there be events and programming?
* How would NorCal like to collaborate with the other CA clubs and groups? With the University?

Feel free to bring and/or submit other questions to consider. All ideas and suggestions needed!

Please RSVP to me and Stephen by 6/18. We hope to see you at the meeting. If you have any alumni friends interested in getting involved, feel free to pass this email along.

Best
Jaclyn

Hi Jaclyn,
Happy to discuss when you get here.  Mainly, the help will be in curating a longer list of people that we can bring into breakfast that would be interesting for alumni to meet with so that we can keep it fresh.  Look forward to discussing.
First ask: Does this group personally have anyone they'd like to have breakfast with, or would anyone like to be a guest for a breakfast series?  Feel free to email me directly.  Ideas always welcome.  Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Best,
Victoria

Hi Victoria

I think you have some good ideas as well. Can we talk about them at our volunteer meeting when I'm in town? I think people will have a lot of ideas for programming in the different regions of NorCal.

The part we do need to figure out is where we have volunteers so you all can help each other, if you are based close to one another.

Would love for the club to come up with an events calendar of some sort as well.

So many things to think about.

Keep the ideas coming!
