I remember someone mentioning one. If that person is reading this, or knows about any other pugs in SA, please go to http://www.python.org.za/ and add the details to that/those pugs. At the moment there is only cape town.

Jeff: Since this is a Python User Group mailing list, we can presume
that Coenie is looking for a Python User Group, not a Linux one, so
your rather sarcastic link isn't actually very useful.

Coenie: There's nothing on python.org.za, but if you look on
http://wiki.openza.co.za/index.php/User_groups there appears to be a
link to the Gauteng Python User Group which you can try:
http://groups.google.com/group/gpugsa

Cheers,
-Jonathan

Second, if you don't know the answer please don't be mean just for the sake of it.

Hey Stefan,
you can sign up here: http://python.org.za/join_form, and then once logged in you should be able to edit the page.

Hi Guys,

I've also had a look at the Gauteng Python User Group, but most of the
traffic is spam. How many people on this list knows of somebody living in GP
that would like to maybe get some active talks going and discussions on the
Google group.

You guys in the Cape have so many interesting topics at your talks, and I'm
sure there are some Python Devs (myself included) here in Gauteng that would
be interested in getting to learn more on some of the topics you guys have
down there (a recent thread would the PyQT vs Gtk+ that I would like to see
a talk on, and some PyGame topics).

But then again that depends on how many active Python users there are up
here .....

Hey Nuc,

I am in Jozi, i think the issue of Spam needs to be resolved (Maybe
moderating new members posts). I think there are quite a few python
dev's in Jozi... so should be able to get together for a meet...

Heys.

I am a moderator of the Gauteng Group (gpugsa -  http://groups.google.com/group/gpugsa). There def was a spam issue and since then i've enabled moderation for new members. This shouldn't be an issue anymore.

The idea is def. to organise meetups and the such in the Gauteng area!

Can someone with admin rights (Roche, Louis)? on www.python.org.za please add: JHB and Pretoria under the list of PUGS and make those pages editable by all logged in users.

Thanks.

I have added the folders Johannesburg & Pretoria, the permissions looks
the same as Cape Town's permissions so I assume people would be able
to edit it. Greame try and add wiki pages.

Regards, Louis.

Not able to edit them, also they do not appear on the front page with Cape town under the list of PUGS.

Kind regards,

Hi,

Well considering there seems to be some sparked interest in an active PUG here in Gauteng, can we gauge by a show of hands (or a binary string equivalent of yes or no) how many people on the CTPUG list is in / around Pretoria / Jozo? Do you know of people not yet subscribed to one of the PUG’s who would be interested in building a local python user community ? And if so, if we try and put together an unofficial meet post-barcamp would any Jozi Guys be interested in a meet somewhere in Pretoria / Midrand with a topic of discussion ?

I’m keen to help get some momentum going here, with regular(ish) meets and talks.

So far I have:

1.       Walter Leibbrandt (Pta)

2.       Ismail Dhorat (Jhb)

3.       Dewald Troskie (Pta)

4.       Coenie Richards ? (Pta) (Are you keen ?)

5.       Stefan Lesicnik (Jhb) (I assumed you would be interested and are based in Jhb)

6.       <insert name here> J

Looking at the member list of GPUG, I'm pretty sure Gert Burger and Ludolph Neethling would also be interested.

But maybe should move this discussion to the GPUG group and not bother the Cape Townians further with our lack of organisation? ;)

I concur. Well Move it to GPUG.

Thanks to the guys on CTPUG for tolerating this thread J . You guys are to thank for the inspiration on getting some momentum going here in Gauteng.

Kind Regards.
