Given that it's unclear when the next global Python bug day will be, I
thought I'd see if there was any interest in doing a local test
writing day. If there is we can pick a date (perhaps one of the
upcoming CTPUG meetings) and I'll see if I can find a core developer
willing to look at and commit any test patches we file. You can get an
idea of Python's stdlib test coverage here:

I'm certainly interested.

If we do decide to do this, it's probably worth deciding on a couple
of modules[1] to focus on, as I think a set of related patches will be
easier to get reviewed and committed than a set scattered across the
standard library.

[1] No claim on the feasibility of reaching such consensus prior to
the event implied.

I've got a gmail account. Why haven't I become cool?

Agreed that focusing on one or two modules is a good idea. So, what
modules would people be keen on writing tests for?

Hi Simon

fwiw, a small group of pythonistas including myself are getting
together sometime next week to hack on some things. There's actually a
pretty good chance we could take part in test writing. I'll run the
idea past them and perhaps we can coordinate.

If they're keen it would be cool to coordinate -- this would also
increase our chances of getting a core dev to take notice. Our next
meeting is on the 9th of May so that was my initial candidate for a
test writing day but I'm open to other suggestions.

It looks like Stephen is busy for the next little while, so I guess
we're minus the UK guys this time.

Neil and I looked at test coverage awhile back and some of the modules
which appeared to be decent candidates for more tests are:

re
elementtree
libxml
multiprocessing
libsubprocess
libsocket

Comments?

Since we have a settled date (6th of June 2009, for those who missed
the previous meeting), and a list of possible targets which no-one has
either objected to or extended (hint, hint), we only need to secure a
venue.

I recall that Synthasite was mooted without much objection. This still
an acceptable option?

We're called Yola now :P

The trouble with this is that somebody needs to let you in and out,
and I don't think I can make that day. Neil Blakey-Milner is flying
to San Francisco on Wednesday. Other options are Darb (who might go
off the radar any minute if his daughter gets born), Bearnard or
Jeremy Thurgood.

Apart from that, it's fine to use the venue...

I'll be there and am happy to provide access to whichever of the offices
we decide to use -- the Gordon Street one (which we've used before) is
probably the best bet.
