15 Communities Holding Municipal Elections May 4, 2009; Secretary of the State Reminding Voters of Mail-in Registration Deadline Monday April 20th

Hartford:  Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz today is reminding voters in 15 Connecticut communities to register to vote for municipal elections scheduled for May 4, 2009.  Eligible voters in communities holding May elections can register to vote by mail if their registration cards are postmarked no later than Monday April 20th.  Voters can still register to vote for the May elections in person at their Registrar of Voters office after the mail-in deadline until 8:00 p.m. on Monday April 27th

“Crucial budget and educational issues are facing many towns in Connecticut as voters go to the polls to choose municipal leaders this year, so it is imperative to register to vote!” said Secretary Bysiewicz.  “Anyone who wants a say in the future direction of their community in these tough times should make sure they mail registration materials to their Registrar of Voters office by Monday April 20th or else go to town hall and fill out the registration card in person by 8:00 p.m. on April 27th.”

Polls will open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. for the Municipal elections on Monday May 4, 2009 in the following communities: The towns of Andover, Bethany, Bolton, Naugatuck, Union and Woodbridge, the Boroughs of Litchfield, Naugatuck, Newtown, Stonington, Bantam(Litchfield), Danielson(Killingly), Fenwick(Old Saybrook), Jewett City(Griswold), Woodmont(Milford) and the City of Groton.  The majority of Connecticut’s municipalities will hold primaries if necessary on September 15, 2009 and a General Election for municipal candidates on November 3, 2009.
